Have you ever experienced dry, cracked, or brittle skin and hair? These things tend to happen during harsh weather. Sigh… If only we could keep the soft glowing skin we eventually obtain by the end of summer. Well, we totally can. But imagine going to Ulta or Sephora for some really good products. Have you seen their prices? Ultra expensive! To help heal your skin and your wallet, here are some  DIY beauty hacks you can make right from your kitchen!

Lip Scrub for Dry Lips

Have ever put on lipstick and you felt or seen flakes of skin on your lips, which leaves the color looking uneven? That, collegiettes, is dry skin, and you need to exfoliate your lips to get rid of the dead skin and moisturize for a perfect pout.

Ingredients include:

  • Honey
  • Olive oil
  • Sugar

Grab a small mixing bowl. Add a spoonful of sugar and a spoonful of olive oil into the bowl and mix. Then add a teaspoon of honey to make it into a thicker paste.

Once you have it mixed together, take your finger and dip it into the paste; then rub the paste onto your lips until you are satisfied. Rinse off with warm water.

The sugar will act as the exfoliant, while the olive oil and honey will act as the moisturizer.

Face Mask Scrub

Our faces have it tough! They deal with the changes in weather before the rest of our skin does. It’s always a good a idea to exfoliate our face at least once or twice a week. However, if you suffer from dry skin it’s best to limit it to once a week.

An easy way to create an exfoliating scrub is to take a scrub with a cleansing product you may already have and add sugar. Or you can make a homemade one with green tea, honey, and sugar. The green tea helps reduce blemishes and prevent wrinkles.

Pour a tablespoon of green tea into a bowl, add tablespoon of sugar, and for moisturizing effect add honey. Mix and apply to face.

Hair Mask

To keep your hair shiny and frizz-free, a hair mask will do the job! Plus, hair masks mean fewer trips to the hair salon for busy collegiettes.

Ingredients include:

  • Half of an avocado
  • One egg yolk.

Avacado is great for adding moisture into your locks while the egg yolk gives it some shine!

Add your two ingredients into a blender and mix until there are no avacado chunks. Put the mixture into your hair, starting from the ends and moving up to your scalp. Leave it it in for about 20 minutes. Rinse and then wash again with shampoo and conditioner.

Now go create an at-home spa day with your girls, collegiettes — you deserve it!
