Cute Date Ideas on a College Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WPUNJ chapter.

Let’s face it, if you’re in college you’re most likely broke, or getting there. And if you have a significant other in college (hooray!) you could be extremely low on funds. What I’ve noticed is that many college couples skip the weekly date nights because they can’t afford it; they’ve lost all the excitement that comes with getting ready and spending time with the person they love because, frankly, it’s expensive. If you’re a couple or just in the midst of dating, college and dates don’t always go together. But little do these college-goers know you could go on a romantic, fun, -insert any adjective that corresponds to your date here-, date for cheap! Get innovative! Get creative! But most importantly have fun and enjoy your time with each other. Whether you’re a couple or just getting to know each other here are some adorably cute date ideas for you to try out, without burning a hole in your pocket!

1. Apple Picking

Even though it’s not always in season, this date idea is so cute and fun that it needed to be included. Take a day when both of you are free and go apple picking! Most orchards only require you to pay by the pound for your apples and at very cheap prices. Have fun getting lost in a corn maze, sipping cider, and — of course — picking apples. Sneaking a kiss in-between the trees wouldn’t hurt either!

2. Movie Night (Re-invented)

Don’t feel like going out? Hold a movie marathon! Now this one seems like the usual go-to date, but you can make it fun. Instead of cuddling up in bed and pigging out on popcorn, change it up. Build a fort with pillows and blankets and watch your movie inside. It puts a new twist on movie night while also bringing out your inner kid!

3. Go to the Zoo

WPUNJ is so close to the city that there’s no excuse not to go. For a fun date, head out there with your honey and go to the zoo! This may seem like a semi-expensive date, but your handy-dandy student ID can give you discounted bus tickets AND zoo admission. It’s not the first place you think of when you want to go on a date and that’s exactly the point; change it up!

Samantha is a Junior and the president of Her Campus WPUNJ at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. She prefers the nickname Sam and is majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Visual Communication. She lives in Central Jersey and lives for the New York Rangers. She loves the outdoors and all things entomology, especially butterflies. When she's not catching up on her favorite Netflix shows she's either working out at the Rec, writing up a spicy new piece for Her Campus, or watching hockey. But most importantly, the way to her heart is some delicious sushi!
