The Classic Rock Fans of Today

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WPUNJ chapter.

When you think about a classic rock fan you picture a middle-aged mom or dad. They have shelves and closets of memorabilia from bands that aren’t even relevant anymore. Now classic rock bands are just on t-shirts that hipsters where and album covers are now phone cases for people how want to look edgy. But what about millennial classic rock fans?

There are large community of fans that love classic rock and grew up in the age of PC, iPhones and Starbucks. Being a millennial classic rock fan comes with its ups and downs. How can you connect with other fans who are twice your age but know the all the songs your friends sing when the radio is on?

Millennials have the extra special advantage of having the souvenirs from someone who lived through those decades.  Their parents are responsible for cultivating their interests and making them the fans of today. But the other side of the coin is older fans don’t take your knowledge seriously. They think you’re too young to know about the “good ole days”.

And your fellow millennials put you down for listening to boring, old school music. But on the other hand you have the knowledge of knowing something awesome. Classic rock comes from a place of angst and rebellion. They put your feelings into words and give you a way to express yourself. Just ask WP sophomore s and pop music majors Kristina Rigamonti and Zack Smith who will be performing before the ultimate Led Zeppelin Tribute band Kashmir.

Kashmir will be here Saturday March 12 at 8 p.m. in Shea auditorium. Kristina and Zack both met here at William Paterson and their love for classic rock brought together. Bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Rival Sons and Pink Floyd are part of their repertoire. At the Kashmir event you can expect the duo to perform a set of stripped down acoustic interpretations of rock and roll classics. They’re so good I know you’ll enjoy the show (maybe even bring you to The Dark Side of the Moon).

Remember to check them out and Kashmir here at WPU in the Shea auditorium Saturday March at 8p.m. And follow Kristina and Zack on YouTube at Zack and Kristina Music and on their Instagrams: @KristinaRigamontiMusic and @ZackTheRipper
