6 Albums to Cure Your Back-to-School Blues

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WPUNJ chapter.

Need help getting pumped for the fall semester? The Her Campus WPUNJ team is here to cure those back-to-school blues! We’ve selected six new albums that are sure to help you cope with the end of summer and heading back to class. These albums range in genre so you’re sure to find one that suits you. These tunes are here to accompany you on your trips to campus or even in your dorm room — but not during quiet hours, of course.

1. Maroon 5: V

The pop band led by Adam Levine is back with more catchy lyrics and fun dance beats in their fifth studio album. Their record includes hits like “Maps,” “Animals,” and “It Was Always You.” Levine’s legendary voice is perfect for the album’s variety of heartfelt ballads, poppy jams, and even a duet with Gwen Stefani!

2. Chris Brown: X

The R&B star’s long-awaited sixth studio album is finally here! Though Chris Brown has suffered through plenty of controversy he still continues to make music — and not just good music but radio hits like “Loyals,” “Fine China,” and “Love More” with Nicki Minaj, all featured on his album. Brown’s record is filled with dynamic duets with artists like Usher, Trey Songz, and Kendrick Lamar, among many others.

3. Ariana Grande: My Everything

“You’ve Got One Less Problem” with this album in your ears! This pop princess delivers plenty of dramatic love songs and romantic lyrics via her amazing Mariah Carey-like pipes! Ariana Grande’s record features the hit singles “Bang Bang” and “Break Free,” along with even more potential hit duets with Big Sean and The Weeknd. You’ll be singing into your hairbrush with this one for sure!

4. Ed Sheeran: X (Multiply)

The British songwriter’s newest album was released during the summer, following the radio hit ”Sing” and later on “Don’t,” both featured on the album. Ed Sheeran’s sweet voice and incredible rapping carry you through every track. He pulls at your heartstrings and sings the words every girl wishes to be serenaded with.

5. Jhene Aiko: Souled Out

Jhene Aiko offers soulful melodies and a soothing voice, the perfect soundtrack for relaxing or studying. Some of you may recognize her from William Paterson’s Spring Jam last spring. For the people who don’t know her, she has been described as the female Drake. Her album features tracks like “Spotless Mind” and “The Pressure.” Aiko is also featured on Chris Brown’s new album.

6. Meghan Trainor: Title

This up-and-coming artist is not just “All About the Bass;” she’s all about the hits too! Meghan Trainor’s new EP only includes 4 songs, but it is packed solid with contagious melodies in songs like “Title” and her chart topping hit, “All About the Bass,” that are sure to make you tap your toes and shake your hair. She shows off her sassy attitude and empowers girls through every track.
