Famous Ladies We Love: Betty White

You might know her from Golden Girls, Hot in Cleveland, or from popular movies such as The Proposal or You Again. She is the funny and wise grandmother we all adore. So let’s be honest, we all love her! Betty White’s charm and humor has definitely found a place in America’s heart.

 

Betty Marion White was born on January 17th, 1922, in Oak Park, Illinois. Her career started when she got a job working for a local television station, according to Biography.com.

 

Betty has since starred in many TV shows and movies. Starting all the way back to one of her first roles, she stared as Elizabeth in Life with Elizabeth. Not only did Betty play Elizabeth, she also produced the TV show.

 

Betty got her big break playing Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Betty’s character Sue Ann Nivens was sweet and witty; Betty won two Emmy Awards for her time spent on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, according to Biography.com.

 

In 1985 Betty earned the role of Rose Nylund, on The Golden Girls. She stayed on The Golden Girls for seven seasons. In 1992 Betty joined two of her cast mates from The Golden Girls to star in a show called The Golden Palace. The Golden Palace went off air in 1993.

 

Recently Betty has been very busy. She was in The Proposal, You Again, and has starred in a new TV show called Hot in Cleveland. She has also made appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Live with Kelly and Michael, The Late Show with David Letterman, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Betty recently hosted Saturday Night Live.

 

Not only does Betty White have a successful career, she is greatly involved with the Morris Animal Foundation. Betty serves as a president of emeriti. Let’s count the reasons, she is successful actress. Betty serves as a president of emeriti for the Morris Animal Foundation. She is a loving mother and grandmother. Betty was even one of the first woman producers in Hollywood, according the Biography.com. Betty has also helped write three memoirs about her life. She may be older than most actresses in Hollywood, but Betty continues to take on the world everyday. She has acted, hosted and produced many TV shows and movies. With Betty’s humor, compassion for animals, and her overall personality she continues to be an inspiration for all of us! Is their any reason not to love her?

Katie King is a senior at Western Michigan University majoring in journalism and minoring in anthropology and gender and women's studies. This will be her second year writing for HerCampus and before that she wrote for the Western Herald. She also wrote for L7 women's magazine in the summer of 2012.
