Williamsburg Date Idea: Antiques Browsing

Let me tell you, after this past weekend, your Campus Cutie is probably EXHAUSTED. After hours of screaming at the TV for his choice Super Bowl team and arguing with his frat bros over potential new pledges, the last thing he needs is a stressful date! Luckily, Williamsburg provides the perfect places to unwind…

 1. Mermaid Books (www.mermaidbookswilliamsburg.com) – 421-A Prince George Street
This quaint shop is truly a hidden treasure. Located by Colonial Williamsburg, it stocks a wide variety of super old and rare books, as well as pottery and other collectibles. Spend some time browsing through their collection of unique postcards and perhaps pick out a couple of choice trinkets for each other.
 
2. The Williamsburg Antiques Mall (www.antiqueswilliamsburg.com) – 500 Lightfoot Road
If you have a car and the patience to wander a bit farther, the enormous Williamsburg Antiques Mall packs a bevy of antique gems, including vintage posters, furniture, books, toys, food containers, and some seriously pricey jewelry. Ranging from the $20 Barbie dolls for which you probably begged your parents 10 years ago to the now $100 baseball cards your grandfather traded when he was a kid, you’re almost guaranteed to find something that piques your interest and sparks a conversation.
 
Plus, the antiques mall includes a small café, La Petite Tea Room, which serves lunch items like soup, salad, sandwiches, and pastries.
 
Best for:  An afternoon with your significant other or steady date.
 
Cost:  Unless you find a must-have item among the racks of antiques, this date should cost you no more than $10, enough to cover a light lunch at the antiques mall or hot chocolate in CW near Mermaid Books.
