As you may have heard, Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast came out on March 17. As anticipation for the film grew, many questions were raised: How would audiences feel about LeFou’s new characterization (as an openly gay character)? Would Emma Watson now be known as Belle instead of Hermione? Who is more attractive—the Beast or the prince? With these questions in mind, we surveyed some of the William and Mary community to find out how they felt about the new film. Here are their responses.

Question 1: It has been “overheard” that in the new BATB movie, the Beast is hotter than when he turns back into a human Prince. How do you feel about this?

Question 2: How do you feel about this statement: “The youngest generation will now know Emma Watson as Belle rather than as Hermione Granger?”

Question 3: Have you seen the movie yet? Or do you plan on seeing it ASAP?

Question 4: Did the new version take care of the plot holes from the original?

Question 5: How did you like LeFou’s characterization? Did the new movie do him justice?
