Name:
Olivia White.
Hometown:
Suffolk, Virginia.
Major(s):
Neuroscience major, Biochemistry minor.
Activities on Campus:
I work as the Area Supervisor for the Campus Center Info Desk, and I’m an active brother in Alpha Phi Omega, the co-ed service fraternity. I also meme a whole lot on Swampy Memes (one of my memes is even being used to advertise for Sadler’s student hiring, so I guess it’s a profession?).
Describe Yourself in Three Words:
Funny, hard-working, perceptive.
Go-To Starbucks Order:
Java Chip Frappuccino.
Favorite Book:
The Virgin Suicides, White Teeth, or JT LeRoy’s Sarah (I love too many books).
Favorite Movie:
Napoleon Dynamite, Moonlight, or Juno (same with movies — can’t pick just one!).
What do you like to do in your free time?
Read and write fiction, make memes, do yoga, listen to music, watch Netflix and gaming videos, try to keep my plants happy, and go on food dates with friends.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I want to visit all fifty states (I’ve been to about twenty-five so far).
What is one of your favorite William and Mary memories?
All of Summer 2016, when I lived here for ten weeks as a research student for Dr. Lashley’s organic chemistry lab. I got to study pharmaceutical synthesis, take a class with my major adviser, and chill with lots of my friends. Pokemon Go was also at its peak!
What are you planning to do after graduation?
I’m moving to Richmond in August, for VCU’s School of Pharmacy. I want to be a clinical pharmacist, and also get a collection of my short stories published.
What is one piece of advice you would give to freshmen?
Take care of your health, both physical and mental — get enough sleep, find an outlet, be kind to yourself, and make time to be with your friends.
What is your favorite thing about William and Mary?
All the freaking nature; I grew up in a swampy area, so I didn’t have a hard time adjusting to the weird weather. I’m gonna miss it!
If you were President of the College for a day, what would you do?
Open up a public suggestion forum for students, faculty, and staff to submit their concerns and opinions. I would also give the staff a meaningful raise, plus the day off. And have a therapy dog party be thrown in the Sunken G’s, with free coffee and tea.
