Pros/Cons of Upperclassmen Housing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

With the last few weeks of the semester come the stresses of registration and housing selection. Still have no idea where you want to live on campus next year? Fear not, the William and Mary community has got your back. Here is what they have to say about the pros and cons of upperclassmen dorms:

Landrum

Pros: location and nice people

Cons: repulsive, very dirty, the water tastes funny, lots of bugs, always has a weird stench, makes me question why I pay so much to live here. – Anonymous, Class of 2017

Pros: The outside is pretty nice and classy lookin, the rooms are hella big and not having to share a bathroom with the rest of the floor is perty neat, also the location is pretty prime, also the cleaning staff are lovely people….

Cons: basically everything else the Laundry machines are always broken and disgusting (they make my clothes smell pretty yucky,) the elevator is pretty shady (like hella shady, sometimes you just gotta say a prayer before riding that thing because who knows if you’ll come out alive) the halls always smell like something died, and Landrum suffers from the 3 big B’s- Bugs (i.e. mostly cockroaches the size of your head- they could probably carry off a small child…) and Black mold is probably all inside the walls (which in retrospect is prob super dangerous,) especially in the bathrooms that don’t have windows or ventilation (i.e. mine).  And the last B is more Bugs, like sometimes your room will just have random ant and ladybug infestations (which the latter sounds cute but is far from it). And the hallways and rooms are just nasty like paint chipping off, stairs are broken, ceiling tiles falling out, etc.  Yeah the inside of landrum is sh**…..Also while I’m complaining there is no good floor to live on-like the basement floods when it rains but like there are so many stairs to my room like who do you think I am some sort of Olympic Athlete?? And like walking up these stairs each day doesn’t even give me a toned butt and thighs so they’re basically useless! – You know who dis is ;), Class of 2017

Pros: amazing location, fairly large closets.

Cons: mold, cockroaches, no AC, lots of bugs, the hallway gets damp in the rain, occasionally smells like warm cheese. – Anonymous, Class of 2018

Ludwell

Pros: apartment style, kitchen, own bathroom, lots of parties, feels like living off campus but you still get a meal plan and to be surround by friends

Cons: Rooms are very tiny, dirty, location, crossing Jamestown Road is terrifying (free tuition though). – Anonymous, Class of 2016

Bryan

Pros: big rooms, close to Wawa/Sadler/lots of good stuff

Cons: hall bathrooms, occasional cockroach. – Anonymous, Class of 2018

Pros: super close to everything (WaWa, bars, classes, Zable).

Cons: the basement is where dreams go to die, and the closeness to everything means that you hear everything (Zable track meets, bars until 2AM). – Anonymous Class of 2016.

Barrett

Pros: AC, location, really pretty, recently renovated, custodians are very nice

Cons: hall bathroom.- Anonymous, Class of 2016

Ho House

Pros- got some hella big beds like what what, slumber party wit da bae :D Uhm private bathrooms, with bathtubs (if you’re into that). Really nice lounges and courtyard and stuff. Also it’s by Wawa and tribe square, nuff said.

Cons- The hallways kind of remind me of the movie the shining….and then like there are empty rooms with covered paintings and furniture….it’s just like gives me the hella creeps and I wouldn’t be surprised if some crazy ghosts live there… Also for real though its perty far like I gotta cross a whole street  before I feel like I’m on campus and like just so far specially from like New Campus -_-

Chandler

Pro: location, AC, just renovated (aka very nice), clean kitchens, minimal bugs, suite bath, AC controls in rooms

Cons: Construction, people always using your kitchen and being loud. – Anonymous, Class of 2018

Jamestown

Pros: spacious, bright, new, has AC, great location, mostly upperclassman

Cons: hard to get a room through housing. JAMESTOWN ALL THE WAY BABY. – Anonymous, Class of 2017

Dupont

Pros: Location, AC, suite bath

Cons: 1960s interior – Anonymous, Class of 2018
