Arie Luyendyk Jr. is a name that has had little importance to the Bachelor Nation since Emily Maynard’s season (2012’s season 8 of The Bachelorette). So, imagine the world’s surprise when it was announced on Thursday morning that he was the next Bachelor! I am all about giving people the benefit of the doubt, but this pick just does not make sense, nor fit the pattern of previous choices for lead. Here is a list of five guys (in no particular order) that would have been better choices.

1. Peter Kraus (Rachel’s season): Because duh, look at him. Also, he was so kind and gentlemanly and just so amazing.

2. Luke Pell (JoJo’s season): Because he was supposed to be the Bachelor last time, but instead we got stuck with Nick.

3. Eric Bigger (Rachel’s season): Because he was a good guy and treated Rachel well.

4. Kenny Layne (Rachel’s season): Because he was an all-around great guy and an even better dad.

5. Ben Zorn (Kaitlyn’s season): Because he is super nice and deserves a nice woman who will love dogs as much as he does.
