How to Transition Your Summer Outfits into Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

We are at an awkward time of the year in which it’s chilly enough in the morning for a sweater but then as noon hits it becomes unbearably hot, to the point that you are sweating in that sweater. This is true, especially here at W&M. All in the same week we can get heavy doses of rain and then on Saturday have the Sunken Gardens filled with students basking in the sunshine. In order to get through one of Mother Nature’s phases of indecisiveness, I have compiled several outfits that will ensure that you’ll look flawless when you arrive to class.

Adventures

If you are going out this would be the perfect outfit. The detailed shorts show personality without with being too fancy.  Since you are showing more skin on the bottom half, wearing a long sleeve chiffon top is perfect to keep you cozy. The loose fit ensures that you’re comfortable but also adds a touch of girliness. Sometimes it can get chilly, so wearing a chunky cardigan doesn’t hurt. However, if it ends up not being cold you can simply peel the sweater off. No problem.

Stroll to the coffee shop

Who said you can’t wear a skirt during the fall? You know the maxi skirt you rocked throughout the summer? Yeah, that one sitting in your closet, it would look awesome paired up with a chunky sweater. This will ensure that you look warm and cute while going to grab a cup of joe. Who knows, you might stumble into your cute crush from math class.

Cool girl

Sweats can look cute too. These trouser sweats are comfortable but don’t look sloppy. Just add one of your old plaid shirts, a bomber jacket, and voila– you instantly have that cool factor. The floral print on the bomber jacket adds a little femininity but also ensures people that you are chill. The outfit in general is easy to put on when you may be running a bit late.

Casual

Lace was really big this year! You can continue that trend by pairing a cute lace top with some loose fitting printed pants. These are comfy but not heavy– almost like your favorite sweats, except more presentable! You can then add a little pop of color with a fun chunky scarf or a cute bandana. This look is effortless but still cute!

Date night

Every girl owns at least one summer dress, so put that dress to good use by pairing it with a cardigan. To add more coverage, wear some thigh high socks and boots. Your date will not be able to keep their eyes off of you throughout the whole night!
