Griffin Glamour: Blowing Out in Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

It’s that time of year again- the most anticipated holiday celebrated by TWAMPs- Blowout. The infamous last day of classes at W&M is always a fun-filled day of debauchery and excitement on the Sunken Garden, and you can bet there will be pictures taken. Here’s a quick list of dos and don’ts for an unforgettable and stylish LDOC:

DO wear something easy. Since you’re likely to be spending most of the day outside running around and hanging out on the grass, you want to make sure you can move around in your outfit. The forecast is looking sunny and warm too, so make sure you wear breathable fabrics like cotton so you don’t get overheated.

DON’T wear a short skirt or dress that you won’t be comfortable sitting in on the ground. When you sit, mini skirts and dresses tend to ride up and not be the best thing to wear while lounging in the grass. Try out a maxi dress for an unexpected twist, or just opt for a tried-and-true pair of chino or cuffed denim shorts.

DO put on sunscreen. Even if you just throw on some SPF 15, you’ll be happy the next day when you’re not sunburned to the max. Bright red, burnt skin doesn’t look or feel good, plus it’s definitely not good for you.

DON’T wear anything too nice. Grass, food, drinks, etc. plus your favorite outfit will equal stains- it’s Murphy’s Law and it’s bound to happen. A dark bottom like denim shorts is probably best (seriously, grass stains). You don’t have to sacrifice style for practicality when it comes to your top, so no fear! Just make sure you wouldn’t be completely heartbroken if something were to spill.

DO have an amazing time. It’s the last hurrah before the onset of finals so live it up! It’s the perfect day to wear something comfy and cute and say cheers to the year with all of your friends.

Happy Blowout, TWAMPs, and make Tribe choices!
