Galentine’s Day Celebration Checklist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

If you are single this Valentine’s season (or in a relationship but want to celebrate your special lady friends), fear not because Galentine’s Day is here! For those unfamiliar with the holiday, Galentine’s Day gained popularity after Leslie Knope introduced it on an episode of the hilarious sitcom Parks and Recreation. The holiday, celebrated on February 13th involves celebrating female friendships and remembering that romantic love isn’t the only thing to be celebrated this month. If you want to partake in some Galentine’s festivities of your own here are some tips!

  • CELEBRATE WITH FOOD: Food is always a great way to celebrate with gal pals. You can order in, hit up Chancellor’s Bistro, or make your own treats. Pintrest has lots of great recipes for sweet and savory foods that you can try your hand at making. Or you can go full Leslie Knope and have a waffle bar complete with whipped cream and other toppings.
  • SEND VALENTINES: Leslie Knope always pays Ann Perkins the most amazing complements…so do the same for your friends! Make handmade, personalized valentines for your friends to let them know how special they are to you. If you have infinite free time, you can up your Galentine’s game by making a scrapbook (Leslie Knope would totally approve)!
  • DO SOMETHING: While it doesn’t have to be a dorm room dance party, have some fun with your friends. Go on a cider walk through CW, have a movie marathon, play some video games…it doesn’t matter. It’s important to spend time with your friends when you’re not in Swem working on classwork.
  • GET CRAFTY: Have a girl’s night in and make some crafts. You can paint canvases to hang in your dorm room/apartment. You can try to learn a new skill like knitting together. For a throwback, you can go old school and make friendship bracelets out of embroidery floss. For a grown up take on jewelry making, try a bead jewelry making class at a local craft store.
