  1. A professor will not flunk you if he knows your name.
  2. Even the “smart” students don’t always enjoy the reading
  3. Everybody will feel lost (and probably get lost) at least once on campus. It’s okay to use the campus map.
  4. No matter how confident your hall mates come across as, they are still secretly seeking your approval
  5. Never try to get anyone’s approval by being someone you are not. There are plenty of people who will accept you and appreciate you just the way you are.
  6. Not everyone is drinking and smoking
  7. Eating lunch by yourself is not uncool. (It shows you are independent! ) ;)
  8. At the same time, there is nothing wrong with eating lunch with dozens of your friends
  9. People will tell you “don’t expect straight A’s,” but the truth is you have the power to determine your academic future
  10. Simultaneously, a poor grade does not mean a poor future. Here’s some reassurance: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/undergrad/cgi-bin/drupal/resilience_video_l…
  11. You have time to pick your major
  12. A bad lecturer does not mean a bad person. Never be afraid to talk to your professors if you have a problem, they were once in your shoes as well. If they will not listen to you, visit the Dean of Students. They are always there on the students’ side.
  13. The person who speaks the most is not always the person who knows the most.
  14. Everyone trips on a brick
  15. Everyone gets frustrated during course registration (okay, maybe not the rising seniors), but it does work out
  16. It’s a good idea to get those General Education Requirements (GERs) done early
  17. Don’t be intimidated by upperclassmen. Many of them can give you some good words of wisdom.
  18. Not everyone rushes a sorority (or a fraternity)
  19. The activities fair will feature over 200 students groups and organizations. Sign up for as many as you like, it is very easy to remove yourself from a listserve if you find out the club is not for you.
  20. Don’t lose sight of your dreams, goals, and aspirations. :)
