20 Reasons To Keep Your Chin Up (Even Though It’s Finals Season)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

It’s all led up to this. The pressure is on and everything is due all at once. This is make it or break it time—but let’s not fall into a pit of despair, let’s not board up in Swem regardless of our mental or hygienic condition, and let’s not forget that there is a lot to look forward to and be happy about.

  1. You don’t look the same as you did when you were twelve. I think we can all agree that that was a dark, dark time, full of work-in-progress boobs, orthodontia, acne that had yet to get under-control, and not knowing how to dress your age.
  2. Winter break! It’s coming and we won’t have to deal with finals or schoolwork for a month.
  3. We go to an awesome school. A hard school, but an awesome school.
  4. Christmas presents are around the corner! Whether you celebrate it as a religious observance, or just participate in the warm fuzzy gift giving to the people who make your life wonderful, that awesome time of gift giving and receiving is nearly here.
  5. There are websites full of pictures of cute and/or silly animals. Like Cat-bounce, animalstalkinginallcaps, and calming manatee.
  6. You are nearly done with this semester’s classes! That’s right. After this you don’t have to suffer another day of that material, or sit and listen to that professor again.
  7. New Year, new start! No matter what your misdeeds and failings this past year, you can start all over again as soon as the ball drops and kid yourself into thinking you’ll actually stick to that diet all year. It’s nice to have hope, isn’t it?
  8. There is a blog called Hot Guys Reading Books. There’s also Cute Boys with Cats.
  9. Christmas parties. Ugly sweaters, stupid Christmas themed accessories, and jolly refreshments. What’s not to love?
  10. Christmas Specials. If you’re not all about Powerpuff Girls suddenly reappearing on TV to stop Princess from harassing Santa, then I don’t know if we can be friends. Or what about the time Lois on Family Guy freaked out because no one appreciated how hard she worked to make Christmas enjoyable? Or how about hate-watching the Glee specials and loving the music but constantly pointing out all the poor writing and the way they always forget that they have (well, had) 2 Jewish main characters? (Maybe that one’s just me?)
  11. Holiday Movies on TV. You can watch the Grinch almost any day during break. And then there’s also ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas if you’re into made for TV movies. Christmas and Holiday themed movies are pretty much on any major TV network all the time. My favorites are Elf and The Family Stone.
  12. The election is over! We all get tired of politics and this past election was as stressful as, if not more stressful than, any other election.
  13. You get to pick out outfits for the holidays and New Year’s and their many parties! Outfit planning is one of my favorite things. I’m sure I’m not alone in that boat.
  14. Watching the Ball Drop in New York! New Year’s parties are the best! I love following the coverage from Times Square!
  15. You will soon be at home sleeping on mattresses that aren’t wrapped in plastic. Probably. I don’t know what your living situation is like, but this is going to be a solid bonus for most of you. Also, non-generic toilet paper. Yes!
  16. A few years ago, you were sweating college apps. Aren’t you so glad all of that is behind you?
  17. Christmas songs are appropriate right now. Let’s face it, many of us wait for this time of the year. No one wants to be that guy who blasts Christmas songs before Halloween has even passed, but part of you cannot wait until you can hear The Beach Boys singing “Little Saint Nick” again. Now is the time, my friends. Now is the time.
  18. Somewhere in the world Beyonce is out there. She is a real person in the world. That in and of itself is awesome.
  19. Tons of great movies are coming out over break! The Hobbit (Dec. 14) and Les Miserables (Dec. 25) are two big ones!
  20. There are free massage chairs in Swem! Thanks Student Assembly!

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, you guys! We can do it! Good luck with your papers, projects, and exams, and comment below with things that are keeping you going this Finals Season!
