In these times of uncertainty, it can be hard to stay focused when working from home. One way to keep your head clear and stay motivated is to refresh your space. Whether you are in your apartment in your college town or back at home with your parents, there has never been a better time to give your room a fresh new do! Check out the tips below to find out how you can redo your space without leaving your home or breaking the bank!

Make sure everything has a place

It’s hard to stay organized in a space when everything is all out of order. And it’s even harder to redecorate! Make sure everything you own has a specific place. It will make moving furniture and redecorating much easier.

Get rid of items you don’t need or use

Decluttering your space not only gives you more room physically, but it can also help you relax your mind! When you declutter, make sure you donate your items to donation centers like Goodwill instead of throwing them away. This prevents items from going to landfills and gives someone else the chance to use an item you didn’t want.

Rearrange the furniture you already have

There is no need to go out and buy new furniture. Sometimes, just rearranging the furniture you have can change the way you feel about your space. Try moving your bed, desk and dresser to different positions in your room and watch the perspective you have of your space change!

Incorporate personal notes and photos

If you are anything like me, you have tons of cards and notes from friends and family members lying around. Cards and notes from loved ones can also be great personal touches to add in your space. Why not turn these into fun pieces of decor? String cards on clothes pins or frame special notes from loved ones. Also be sure to add photos and Polaroids of family and friends! What better way to help lift your spirits than pictures of your college friends or encouraging messages from family members?

Set the mood with lighting

The lighting in your room can affect your productivity. For different mood lightings, try adding string lights, candles and even more lamps to your space. Don’t limit yourself to just one of each! Depending on the amount of space in your room, you can have multiple sets of string lights and lamps to brighten up your space.

Hang up some handmade artwork

Again, personal touches can really make your space feel more like your own. Make paintings, collages or any other form of art to put on your walls or desk. This is your chance to really get creative! Having your own artwork in your room gives it originality — no other room will have the one-of-a-kind piece you created.

Make it cozy with throw pillows and blankets

There is no better way to make your room more inviting than making it cozy. I’m no stranger to having multiple throw blankets on my bed and desk chair. Adding pillows on your bed can also make it more comfortable and inviting. Throw blankets and pillows can be a great way to bring in colors and textures from other parts of your room!

Add some greenery

Plants are no doubt my favorite part of a space. Having plants in your room, real or fake, can bring the outside in. Especially during the time of this pandemic, having a reminder of the beauty of nature within your room can lift your spirits and keep you motivated during this challenging time!

And — that’s it! We hope you found a few ways to spice up your space during quarantine. We hope by curating a space that makes you feel comfortable during an uneasy time may bring your spirits up a bit — bring in some creativity! Tag @hercampuswku on Instagram if you try some of these ideas out.
