Top 5 Podcasts to Keep You Entertained on Your Walk to School

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Need a pep in your step? Start with these five podcasts.

Your alarm clock rings: it’s 7:30 a.m. Your eyes are fighting to stay open but your warm bed just feels oh so cozy! You force yourself out of bed in order to make it to your 8:50 a.m. class. The only thing keeping you motivated is your daily walk to class. Why you might ask? Because you can listen to your favorite podcast.

This is how I feel every morning: excited to listen to my podcasts and start the day with positivity by listening to my favorite hosts. Getting out of bed for class can be excruciating, but treating yourself to your favorite podcast can motivate you to seize the day. If you don’t know where to get started, check out these five podcasts to get you going!

1. Morbid

This podcast features everything from true crime and scary history to spooky ghost/spirit stories. Hosted by two best friends (a hairdresser and an autopsy technician), this podcast is the perfect mix of authentic storytelling and researched content with a side of funny best friend commentary to lighten the mood. With the arrival of autumn, this is the perfect podcast to get you into a spooky Halloween mood without leaving you terrified out of your mind. They cover everything under the sun of true crime, but my recent listens have been the episodes about Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, and the Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders.

2. Shit You Should Care About – Culture Vulture/The Shit Show

Need your daily dose of news without being terribly bored? This is the podcast for you. Shit You Should Care About is hosted by various New Zealand school friends who report on important news from all over the world while including the pop culture news we all crave. They have two different podcast shows, Culture Vulture, featuring everything pop culture and celebrity news, and The Shit Show, where they give you a run-down on the important news going on and explain complicated topics to understand.

3. Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain

Even if you aren’t a fan of Emma Chamberlain, this podcast touches on topics that may be helpful for you and your life. Emma does a great job of diving into topics that can sometimes be hard or uncomfortable to talk about, or that are usually swept under the rug. This podcast feels intimate and gives the perfect ‘big sister’ talk we all need sometimes. She focuses on one topic in each podcast episode, making it possible to explore the topic thoroughly. Some of her topics include “Choosing Between Love and Career…Can You Have Both?,” “The Met Gala,” and “Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone.”

4. Goes Without Saying

Goes Without Saying touches on important topics that aren’t always discussed. This podcast makes you feel seen, heard and understood. Sephy and Wing, the two hosts, leave you feeling comforted, discussing intersectional feminism, sex life, body image, mental health and much much more. This is the perfect podcast to start your day on the right foot. The two hosts do a wonderful job of being thought-provoking but also sensitive and caring when addressing topics some may struggle with.

5. Ten Percent Happier with Dan Harris

This podcast is hosted by journalist Dan Harris who had a panic attack on live television and decided to dive into the world of meditation. He now gives us his expertise through his podcast where he features exceptional guests like meditation teachers, scientists and celebrities who explore topics such as science-based techniques for dealing with anxiety, stress and productivity, and also things like psychedelics, morals and sleep. This podcast brings light to things you may have never known and give great advice for a happier life and outlook!

There’s a huge range of podcasts out there, so whether it’s one of these five or not, give them a try! Podcasts may not always sound appealing but once you find ones you can relate to or ones that leave you thinking, you’ll be hooked! Don’t be hesitant to dive into the endless array of podcasts.
