Not one to skimp on holiday spirit (every year I go to great lengths to drive aimlessly through my neighborhood to creepily stare at everyone’s lights), I’ve compiled a list of movies to help spread some holiday cheer!
Â
1. Elf
I DARE you not to laugh when Will Ferrell casually picks up the phone with, “Buddy the elf, what’s your favorite color?”
Â
2. The Santa Clause
Is there anything better than realizing that Bernard, Head Elf, is the same guy who plays the nerdy kid in 10 Things I Hate About You?! I think not. Talk about versatility.
Â
3. The Holiday
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – The Holiday, presumably set during the Christmas(ish) season – could quite possibly be the best movie of all time. Those actors, that story line, that soundtrack…that Nancy Meyers really knows what she’s doing.
Â
4. Love, Actually
“Love, actually, is all around us.” God, deeper words have never been said.
Â
5. Bridget Jones’s Diary
Renee Zellweger as her most adorably plump self. Definitely a top ten holiday movie thanks to the gem of a Christmas sweater Bridget dons at her mother’s nightmare of a holiday party.
Â
6. Home Alone
I mean…obviously.
Â
7. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Tim Burton is a creepy genius.
Â
8. Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas
A magical joyride!!! Seriously, the makeup and sets are awesome. And so is Taylor Momsen in her pre-“I’m a badass” stage.
Â
9. The Polar Express
It’s just fun to look at.
Â
10. A Christmas Story
Ok ok – I’ve never seen this one, which is an absolute outrage according to my friends/family/acquaintances. But it makes the list since I hear it’s amazing.
