The Go-To-Guide for Spring Break Shopping

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

If you’re searching for spring break essentials, look no further

Whether you’re going on an extravagant trip or resting on a staycation, spring break will be here before you know it. If you’re anything like me, booking a trip is just an excuse to make unnecessary purchases months beforehand. Although, as a recovering shopping addict, I’m here to tell you that there are actually only five categories of must-haves for your spring break shopping guide.

1. A holy trinity of swimsuits

Every girl needs three swimsuits for spring break: The comfy one, the one piece and the thirst trap. To some, this may seem like too few. However, these are the only pieces of swimwear you really need. Anything more will just take up room in your suitcase because these are the three you will always reach for. The comfy swimsuit is the practical one. You can spend all day swimming, tanning and eating snacks on the beach while wearing it and you’ll still feel confident and cute. The next is the one piece. I am a firm believer that everyone needs at least one good one piece. It’s classy and flirty; it also will never go out of style. Finally, the one we’ve all been waiting for…the thirst trap. In my opinion, the thirst trap is an art, and an artist needs her tools to shine. You want this swimsuit to be hot without leaving too little to the imagination. However, this is why the other two swimsuits are needed because you’ll likely only wear this for an Instagram photo or two since it isn’t the most comfortable option. Some of my favorite places to shop for swimsuits are Aerie, Target and Pacsun. If you’re looking for inspo I love, here is a  comfy swimsuit, a one piece and a sexy swimsuit!

2. A cute cover-up

A cute cover-up is a spring break staple! These are perfect for wearing on the way to the beach or pool, or for a quick lunch in between swimming. The best part – they’re easy to throw on and essentially create a no-brainer outfit! I absolutely adore these cover-ups from Pacsun and Billabong.

3. An affordable pair of sunglasses

When I say affordable, I mean affordable. As a person who has lost designer sunglasses, the feeling is heartbreaking yet almost inevitable when going on a trip. Even if you’re great at keeping track of your valuables, sunglasses are so easy to break in between traveling or on the beach. Instead, opt for some cheap yet cute sunglasses that you won’t mind not having forever. This also gives you a great excuse to try out trendy or unique styles without breaking the bank. Check out these pairs from Target and Shein!

4. The going-out dress

This is the main event of your shopping guide. When done right, a great going-out dress is timeless, flattering and can be re-worn multiple times. The key to the going-out dress is to find something trendy enough to fit the vibes, but not overly trendy to the point that you won’t like it by summer. Here are some gorgeous options from Winsdor, Princess Polly and Selfie Leslie

5. A lighthearted read

The perfect accessory for spring break is a good book! Honestly, the last thing I want to do during break is read something challenging and complex. However, I do love to curl up by the pool with a lighthearted, fun piece of escapist literature. Some of my recent faves include: Holding up the Universe by Jennifer Niven, I’ll Give you the Sun by Jandy Nelson and People we Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry.

These are just some of my top choices for my spring break haul, but remember to wear what makes you comfortable and confident! If you love it, go for it.
