Struggles People with a Silly Face Know Are Real

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

If you think having a resting bitch face is a struggle, try having a resting silly face. I may look like a clown— not the scary, killer kind— but I deserve to be taken just as seriously as anybody else. So, please hear me out and take me seriously when I say this: no one takes me seriously, and it really sucks. Here’s why:

  1. Everything you say is somehow sarcastic.
You’re my best friend, but no, I mean it when I say you can’t have the last bite of my cheesecake. So please leave me alone. Why can’t you just take me seriously?

  1. People ignore your comments about important issues.
Nope, I’m definitely not kidding when I say I think PSLs are gross.
  1. People assume you’re always happy.
I’m not freaking Tigger. I can get grumpy, so please just back off.
  1. You can’t intimidate anyone.
I’m just trying to scare off my childhood bully. Please send help my way, SOS!
  1. You’re too approachable.
You can’t walk down the street without having marketers approach you. Like, bud, I’m just trying to get to class without interruption.
  1. People assume you’re funny.
I’m sorry to disappoint, but you’d have better luck assuming a rock’s funny.
  1. You’re expected to be high-energy all the time.
But I’m already dressed in my onesie ready to pass out.

But who am I to complain? Resting bitch face, resting silly face… we all have our struggles. So whatever face you have, rock on!
