Spring Fashion Must-Haves

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

It’s that time of the year (or it’s supposed to be) where the sun is beginning to shine, the winter jackets can go in storage, and the lake is no longer frozen in Madison. Although we’re off to a bit of a rough start, spring is indeed upon us, and therefore it is time for a new wardrobe. Put your Uggs, bulky sweaters, winter gear and thick leggings away because it is time for spring fashion. I always love spring fashion because it has a summery feel to it, and anything having to do with summer is okay in my book. So here are a few things that you must pick up for this season of spring in Madison – and some can even be continued on through summer.

The Wide Leg Pant

The 70s are back.  The 80s have been following us for a while with the crop top trend, but the 70s are back now in full force. The best material to buy this type of pant in is a jean because you can wear them night or day, casual or dressy. Do not pair them with a flowy top!  The most flattering way to wear this trend is with a shirt tucked into the jeans with a belt. Add heels or wedges for lengthy legs.

The Maxi Dress

This trend is a continuation from last summer, and it can begin now and keep on going through August. The maxi dress is the perfect throw-on for weekend brunches or afternoon shopping trips. They are comfortable and easy to wear. The dresses look great paired with any type of sandal, but my personal favorite is to pair them with Gladiator sandals.

Leopard Print

Anything leopard is in for spring 2011. Whether it is on dresses, tops, shoes or accessories, the print is extremely popular. It looks best when paired with black, but when done correctly, it can be paired with other prints as well. I would stay with pairing it against a solid to avoid a fashion mishap. Just be careful not to overdo it!

Wedges

Wedges are my favorite shoes to rock during spring and summer. Just like most of the other trends, you can either wear them casual or dress them up. Wedges can be paired with shorts, dresses or pants, so the shoe is definitely worth buying because it’s versatile. And the best, and most surprising, is that they’re more comfortable than heels!

So go out, go shopping and enjoy the beautiful weather that is starting to come to us!
