Move over pumpkin spice, an all-year-round drink is taking center stage this fall.

As autumn settles in, the trees lining East Campus Mall begin to turn golden, the mornings grow brisk and the scent of fallen leaves fills the air. It’s that perfect in-between season, and while pumpkin spice is all the rage, let me introduce you to a year-round treat that deserves a spot in your mug beyond the autumn months. Enter the London Fog: a cozy blend of Earl Grey tea infused with fragrant bergamot, a splash of vanilla syrup and velvety steamed milk. It’s the ultimate fall pick-me-up: elegant, aromatic and perfectly suited for slow mornings or late-afternoon study breaks.

Originating in the 1990s in Vancouver, Canada, the London Fog quickly traveled across North America, becoming a staple for tea lovers everywhere. With its soft layers of citrus and vanilla, it’s just the right balance of warmth and brightness to match autumn’s mood. Lucky for you, it’s simple to make at home.

1. Pick Your Favorite Mug

First things first, pick your favorite mug. I’m not kidding; the perfect mug is paramount to enjoying this delicious drink. Whether it’s oversized and cozy or a souvenir mug from that vacation you took in grade school, the right mug sets the tone for your London Fog experience.

2. Steep Your Earl Grey Tea

Next, steep your favorite Earl Grey tea. My go-to is Numi’s Aged Earl Gray. It has delicious hints of bergamot (an aromatic Italian orange) which infuses the tea with the perfect citrus notes that take it a little further than your average Earl Grey. Brew your tea for three to five minutes with one or two teabags, depending on how strong you like it.

3. Froth Your Milk

While your tea steeps, it’s time to froth! Mix your favorite milk and add a dash of vanilla extract or creamer if you want something sweeter. Steam it however you like: a handheld frother, a milk steamer or just heating the delicious concoction on the stovetop is perfect. Just make sure it’s warm and frothy!

4. Combine Tea and Milk

Once the tea is brewed, pour the warm, frothy milk blend over the steeped tea. If you need an extra pick-me-up, add a sprinkle of cinnamon or even garnish it with a vanilla bean for a touch of elegance.

Now your London Fog is ready! Enjoy the warmth and sweetness of your creation. Whether taking a break between classes or unwinding at home, this drink is the perfect companion for fall’s cozy pace. And if making it yourself feels like too much effort, Colectivo’s got you covered.
