I’ve just begun my senior year here at UW; fresh off a long summer and a semester abroad, I was more than eager to get back to campus and check out the singles scene. I came to school feeling cool and confident about my single gal status, sure that I’d find plenty of hotties to mingle with and occupy my time. Upon my arrival, however, I noticed the one thing a singleton never wants to see: couples. Everywhere. Whether it be canoodling in an outdoor café on State Street or holding hands on the walk to class, it felt as though my fellow students were shoving their “coupledom” in my face…and I didn’t like it one bit. Fortunately, though, I’ve realized there are still plenty of places to flaunt your singleness around campus. Hit up these spots if you want to get your flirt on:

Logan’s: Going to a bar is pretty much a surefire way to meet other singles, but several laps around the bar reveal that Logan’s definitely has more singletons per square foot than any other hotspot in town. The large counter space by the bar makes it almost too easy for an interested fella to offer to buy you a drink (and consequently stop and chat), and the outdoor bar maximizes the locale’s drink-and-chat potential. If you’re looking for a fun night of shameless flirting, Logan’s is definitely the place to be.

The Bookstore: It sounds nerdy, but it’s true – during the first weeks of school, what place is going to be more crowded than the university bookstore? It’s basically a recipe for a movie-script meeting: girl carrying books bumps into boy looking for books, girl realizes boy is in her class, girl gives boy her number and boy falls madly in love with girl. Easy as pie.

A Coffee Shop: Not quite as crowded as the bookstore, but pretty dang close. Everyone knows a college student runs on no sleep and excessive amounts of caffeine, so go into any coffee shop at any time of day and you’re bound to find other sleep-deprived students picking up their caffeine fix, too. This is especially true during midterms and finals, so I highly suggest upping your coffee intake during those times to capitalize on coffee shop cuties.
