Purple Rain is Falling, Farewell to Prince

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Anyone who is from Minnesota is probably having their phones and social media blow up with news of the sudden passing of Minnesota legend, Prince. Earlier this morning, Prince was found dead at the age of 57. His publicist confirmed this, saying he passed away in his home of Paisley Park in Minnesota.

This news is coming as a shock to most people, as Prince was in the news recently after having to be hospitalized for the flu, but was reportedly fine after that incident, even hosting a party at Paisley Park soon after.

Prince Rogers Nelson, who was nominated for 32 Grammys (taking home 7), was not only an icon and hero to the people of Minnesota, but to the entire world as well. His music and performances were nothing short of brilliant and daring, and his incredible success is proof of that.

As a Minnesota girl, this news breaks my heart. I still remember jamming out with my mom to her Purple Rain CD in the car and getting way too excited when he performed at the Super Bowl or various awards shows. Every single person from Minnesota knows that pride we felt seeing him on TV, absolutely killing it.

So, as a tribute to this iconic performer, here are some of his songs to listen to today.

1.     Purple Rain

2.     This Could Be Us

3.     When Doves Cry

4.     Let’s Go Crazy

5.     Way Back Home

6.     Let’s Work

7.     Dirty Mind

Goodbye to a Minnesota Legend, goodbye sweet Prince.
