An Open Letter to Graduating Seniors: Thank You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Dear Seniors,

Coming to a school this big can be terrifying, but luckily, I had some amazing older Badgers to show me the ropes. I want to say thank you to all of the seniors that have been there for me through my admittedly rough (and longer than necessary) transition into college life.  You taught me exactly how to make it from one end of campus to the other with only 15 minutes between classes, where all the best places to eat are and where your secret study spots are.

But let’s be honest here, you didn’t just help to teach me how to survive school, you taught me how to survive the weekends too. You always welcomed me in when I wanted somewhere to go that wasn’t my closet sized dorm room. You gave me and my friends the best game day tips and tricks (thank you for teaching me the words and dances to all the songs) and taught us the ins and outs of State Street. You also showed us how fun it can be to go out on State Street after big events like the championship game…even though we all had morning classes the next day. You went out of your way to include me in your group of friends and I will forever be thankful for that.

Even after figuring out how this whole college thing works and what my favorite weekend activities are, I still had some learning to do. You’ve helped shape who I am and who I want to be. You’ve been there to comfort me through homesickness, the stress of exams and the anxiety of not knowing what I want to do for the rest of my life. You’ve taught me that it’s okay to not have everything figured out, you’ve been there to help me find someone who could advise me when you couldn’t, you wrote letters of recommendation for me, you introduced me to some amazing friends and you’ve opened more doors for me than I thought possible.

So to all of the seniors that have been there for me through it all, thank you. I couldn’t have done any of this without you and this campus will never be the same when you’re gone. I’m still not ready to be an adult, but you definitely prepared me to try. Have fun in the real world and know that I’m already looking forward to your first visit as an alum.

Sincerely,

Your not-so-baby badger
