Can you explain what a Badger Volunteer Leader does?

Badger Volunteer Leaders basically oversee Badger Volunteers at their volunteer site, which can be anything from tutoring at a school, working at the arboretum, or packaging food at a food bank. There has to be a lot of coordination between the volunteer site and Badger Volunteers, and that’s our job as leaders. We keep things organized and running smoothly so that volunteers can get the most out of their experience.

How did you get involved with Badger Volunteers?

It was actually my girlfriend who turned me on to Badger Volunteers. She was one back in freshman year, and I was looking for a way to get more involved with volunteering. She suggested the program, and I ended up liking it so much that I decided I’d step up and take a bigger role.

What’s the most difficult part of being a Badger Volunteer Leader?

The most difficult part is definitely the taxi rides we take to the volunteer site. I mean, the ride itself is quite cushy, it’s just that they’re always late!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of this position?

For me, it’s just the fact that you’re able to get involved with the Madison community and really help out where it’s needed. Getting outside the campus bubble, I feel like I can make a difference in a city that I love.

Where can people go to get involved with organization themselves?

Getting involved with Badger Volunteers is so incredibly easy. Just register at the beginning of the semester at the website. Almost everything is taken care of for you. Just sign up and show up!
