If you’re looking to expand your shelf, here are my five recommendations.

I absolutely love to read. It has been one of my favorite activities since elementary school, and therefore, I have read a ton of books over the years. I have loved most titles that I have read, but there are some books that have stood out to me more than others. If you are looking for recommendations of books, here are five that I think everyone should give a chance.

1. Emma by Jane Austen

While I think you should read all of Jane Austen’s books, Emma is actually my favorite of her novels. It is the fun, romantic tale of Emma Woodhouse and George Knightley. I love romance books, and this is one that I feel everyone should read. If you enjoyed Pride and Prejudice or another classic romance, you should definitely give Emma a chance.

2. The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré

This coming-of-age novel is about a Nigerian girl named Adunni who simply wants to receive an education. Her goal is to find her “louding voice,” the ability to speak up for herself. This book felt authentic and reminded me reminded me of the struggles that still exist across the world.

3. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

It is hard to pinpoint a favorite young adult novel because it is the genre that I have read the most of, but this story about Charlie navigating high school is one that I think we can all take something away from. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend adding it to your list.

4. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

This influential dystopian novel about a society in which children are forced to fight to the death in an arena on television is one of the most beautifully written contemporary novels. If you somehow have not picked it up yet, I cannot recommend reading it enough. The next two books in the series are equally as important and wonderfully worded.

5. A Burning by Megha Majumdar

This is a beautiful and devastating novel about Jivan, a Muslim girl, who is accused of executing a terrorist attack on a train. It also focuses on her former gym teacher and the one who could provide her an alibi. It is a thrilling social commentary that held my attention.

From the enchanting and beautiful words of Jane Austen’s romance novel Emma to the captivating and eye-opening A Burning, I have gotten to experience quite a few incredible stories throughout my years. If you are looking for more titles to read, these five books are ones that I highly recommend.
