No animals allowed in your apartment? No problem!

I have wanted a cat since I was very young. My grandparents have always had cats and so has my dad. But since I lived primarily with my mom, a dog person, I’ve never had a cat of my own. I always joked about getting a cat in college but I never knew if I would actually follow through. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I really did want one for so many reasons. However, there was just one thing standing in my way: my apartment doesn’t allow pets.

I started joking about getting an emotional support animal, but never thought that I would qualify for emotional support. One day, I was talking with my therapist and I decided to bring up the possibility of getting an animal. To my surprise, she told me that she thought it would really help with my anxiety. I never thought she would actually endorse the idea of me getting an animal, so I was shocked when she said this. She wrote me a letter that day and all I needed to do was send it to my apartment. Then, they approved it as well! As soon as I got the approval, I became obsessed with buying things for my future cat and looking for the one I would take home. I ordered a cat tree that looks like a cloud and it is the cutest thing I have ever seen. I decided to go to the humane society to look at the cats they had available and I fell in love with absolutely all of them. I had to then wait three days to pick two that I wanted to meet. ONLY TWO. It was one of the hardest decisions of my life. I ended up picking Freddie and Merlin, and much to my surprise, they let me meet Freddie’s brother, Jason, too! I ended up falling in love with Freddie, but I wasn’t able to take him home that day because he still needed to be neutered and microchipped. It ended up working out nicely because now when he is microchipped it will be with all of my information at no additional charge to me. As I am writing this, I get to pick him up in three days and I cannot wait to take my new kitty home.

I am, however, renaming him. He will be called Mr. Wiggles from here on out. Everyone can come up with their own nicknames, but I’ve already been referring to him as Wiggie. All we can do now is wait, but I am so excited to introduce him to his new home!
