I spend basically all day out of the house so I need to have all my essentials with me

When you’re a college student, you most likely have classes throughout the day, a job to clock into and clubs you’re a part of. The day tends to get packed and sometimes, things you didn’t expect to happen, happen. At least twice a week, I have classes all day and then work until 8 PM. Therefore, I have learned exactly what I need to have with me at all times.

1. Food/Snacks

This seems obvious. But, there were many times in previous semesters when I forgot to keep a snack with me and ended up really hungry throughout the day, or spent money on something to eat (which is not ideal). So, now my backpack is always loaded with snacks. I’ve got granola bars, a bag full of cashews and a bag of Cheez-Its. On days when I won’t be able to stop home, I usually pack a sandwich to eat during my break.

Side note: Mint and gum deserve an honorable mention too; I never leave the house without them.

2. An Endless Supply of Lip Balm

Right now, I would probably say I have 5 different lip balms in my backpack. I also carry around lip balm in my jacket pockets. Essentially, I am a big lip balm enthusiast. It is especially important in this cold weather, so I always have some laying around.

3. Makeup

Kind of along the same lines as lip balm, I have extra makeup in my bag. Often, I’m running late and didn’t get to put on any makeup, so it is nice to have it in my backpack if I want to put any on. I only carry a few things, namely mascara and concealer, and it is helpful to have them around.

4. Perfume

This is kind of random but fun. I was at Bath and Body Works and saw these mini body spray bottles and immediately bought them. It was super cute and small and I just shoved it into my backpack, thinking I would never use it. But, I did end up using it, usually in the middle of a long day, or after working out (if I am working out in between classes). It is useful to have and they also sell mini deodorants which I also recommend having in your backpack.

Sometimes, the days can get really busy and overwhelming. It’s helpful to have a few essential items with you and relieve some of the stress, knowing that you are prepared. Even if you don’t use everything every day, it is still nice to have them on demand.
