What is MODA Magazine?
MODA Magazine is UW-Madison’s online source for style, nightlife, dining and wellness (health and beauty) on campus and around the city. Our aim is to appeal to students who appreciate things like fashion and great restaurants, while recognizing that we as college students cannot afford every luxury we see on the pages of Vogue and GQ. We are officially sponsored by the WUD Publications Committee.

How did the idea of MODA start?
MODA began when I was interning at Michigan Avenue magazine in Chicago (with the president of the Her Campus UIC chapter, Marissa Govedarica, in fact!) and was inspired by the other interns that were all affiliated with their respective universities’ style magazines. Throughout my internship, I compiled ideas from the interns and the work I was doing for Michigan Ave, proposed the idea to PubCom, and soon enough, a launch date had been set.

Who are some of the fashion designers that inspire you?
Gosh, I’m all over the place. My favorite brands, personally, are Vince, J Brand, Theory and James Perse – my everyday look is literally jeans, a t-shirt or sweater and boots. I’m really basic. But other than that, I always love the collections of Nanette Lepore, Kate Spade, Rag & Bone, Elizabeth & James and Helmut Lang. Oh, and Tory Burch. Meeting her is on my bucket list.

What general fashion advice do you have for busy college women?
Busy college women don’t have time to sift through their closets for a half hour every morning, nor do they have time to watch every runway show to keep up with the season. What we try to get across through MODA is that every style is unique…so own it. It doesn’t matter what brands you wear, where you shop or what size you are. Make it yours.
