London Fashion Week’s Hottest Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.
London, England: A city known for it’s enchanting history, ominous skies, and financial advancements. The rainy metropolis is commonly filled with civilians wearing neutrally colored business attire, faux fur jackets, and plaid scarves, trends influenced by world-renowned fashion designers.  This past February however, visionary designers at London Fashion Week incorporated elements of elegance, mystery, vibrancy, and animation to the runway, bringing a splash of energy to the murky city streets.

Delicately crafted bows, frills, and embellishments were among some of the hottest trends to take center stage at London’s fashion week. Commonly featured were tightly knotted black and white neckties, adding sophistication and intricacy to the simplest of outfits. Eccentrically colored collars, feathers, and ruffles were also commonly featured on the runway, putting a modern twist on customary English fashion.

Oversized jackets, statement capes, and velvet ensembles were also highlighted styles last week. These designs created feelings of mysticism and secrecy, sparking great interest and enthusiasm amongst the audience. Nearly sweeping the ground, extravagant capes and jackets were crafted from fabrics such as wool and sequins. Furthermore, the use of velvet in fashioning outfits formed a combination of chicness and ambiguity along the stage.

Additionally, apparel designed using metallic and sequin textures illuminated the runway and proceeded to steal the spot light. With every turn and pose, eyes were drawn to the glistening outfits that radiated over the crowd. Through the use of such materials, designers were able to add a little shimmer and vitality to the typical daytime London wardrobe.

The power of fashion is colossal; it can motivate thoughts, styles, behaviors, and everything in-between. The addition of colors and textures can change moods and emotions, shedding a little bit of light on an ordinary day. Through the incorporation of dramatic fashion statements, history was made on the runway at London Fashion Week 2016.
