Spring Break in BA
Â
As all Badgers know, last week was spring break; and naturally, it was the perfect time for my freshman sister to come visit me here in BA. For the whole week (who am I kidding? The whole MONTH) leading up to her visit, I was busy planning activities and excursions to give her the most memorable spring break ever – and I can now say without a doubt, mission accomplished.
Â
I narrowed down the list of important activities to three main categories: tanning, shopping and nightlife. So, being the dedicated big sister I am, I bought her a ticket to see DJ Tiesto perform in a huge outdoor arena the night she arrived. She was a bit tired after her full day of travel, but I told her we had no choice. We were going to this all-night concert and we were going to love it. And, after a lengthy nap and a couple shots of espresso, she was as ready to go as I was.
The concert was INSANE – it was a massive outdoor racetrack, and at least 5,000 people formed a giant mosh pit towards the front of the stage. There were a couple opening DJs, and Tiesto finally came on at about 2 a.m. Suddenly, the lights surrounding the stage went wild – spotlights and laser beams abounded, and a giant screen behind Tiesto flashed images of supermodels and movie stills. We didn’t leave the concert until 6:30 the next morning, miraculously feeling like we could handle three more hours of this crazy house music.
Â
We hit up some other clubs throughout the week (obviously), but our next notable activity was shopping. My sister wanted to check out the Argentine fashion, so we spent one rainy day going mall-hopping, and found my new favorite mall here: Patio Bullrich. Patio Bullrich is a hip, upscale mall, complete with a movie theater and a fabulous food court that definitely catered to my vegetarian sister’s needs. We spent hours scouring each and every store in the mall and capped off the day with a delicious dulce de leche gelato, an Argentine specialty.
Â
And now for the most important aspect: tanning. My sister was very concerned about soaking up as much sun as humanly possible, because let’s face it – nobody wants to come back from spring break pale. Contrary to popular belief, there are no beaches in the immediate vicinity, and it is a bit of a hassle to take a 5-hour bus ride to get to the nearest one. We did just fine though, and sought out an amazing pool club to catch some rays. We spend three full days there, and had unlimited access to snacks, juice and sun…it was perfection.
Â
All in all, spending a week with my sister was priceless. We both had a ton of fun, and my sister went back to Wisconsin feeling bronzed and beautiful from her week abroad.
