A Letter to My Mom Miles Away on Mothers Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Temporarily moving away from our mothers is hard enough, but not being able to stand next to them on this special day is even tougher. The person who raised us and put up with our complaints deserves to be acknowledged. I hate to admit that I may not thank her enough, but being apart from this woman made me realize the world that she gave me.

No present can be the equivalent to what my mom has done for me, not even the flowers, presents and chocolates she calls unnecessary but very thoughtful. She made me the girl I am today.

Dear Mom,

I start by saying thank you…

Thank you for giving me life, clearly. More importantly, thank you for holding my hand while I was getting onto the school bus; for always telling me the utter truth; for forcing me to like vegetables; for tolerating me when I was wrong; for being my doctor when I was sick; for waking me up when I slept through my alarm; for exercising with me; for setting up for big sleepovers; for washing my clothes; for sending me to the most perfect university; for providing a shoulder to lean on; for having my back; and most importantly, for being my best friend.

I recently discussed with my friend about how difficult it is to take care of our every need in college. So mom, thank you for doing that for not one, but three children (well, sometimes four if you count dad). I seriously don’t understand how you have the energy to be a full-time mother when I barely have the energy to get up for class every day.

I not only love everything you do for me, but I love the person you are. You are my mentor, trainer, nutritionist, tutor, driver, cook, cheerleader and caretaker—all at the same time. You prove that multitasking is indeed possible.

Since I’m so far away, I guess another daily call or FaceTime will have to suffice. However, I hope this letter will serve as something a little extra than just seeing my face. Here is my present to you…

Sincerely,

A proud daughter, child, and little girl

Do something special for your mom too. Words can go a long way! Remember that you likely are miles away from your mom too, and she could use your love on this special day.

Thank you Badger Moms, for all that you do!
