Lets Get Fit for Summer ’13

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

It’s that time of year again! Spring is in the air, its finally warm in Madison THANK GOD, and our next school break is summer! Now even though we are all so sad to leave the beautiful city of Madison, our summer plans, either home or away, will likely include short shorts, dresses, bathing suits, and other clothing that covers the bare minimum of ourselves. So what does this mean, time to get fit! Fortunately, the UW campus has tons of ways to stay active especially in the warm weather! Here are a few tips on how to stay active, get fit, and kick-start our slim summer bodies we are all struggling to achieve:

CYC Fitness!

My personal favorite is the in-door cycling studio located at East Campus Mall right above Fresh Market (after you work out you can go get some fresh fruit!). CYC Fitness offers a full body workout, and music experience right on a bicycle! The workout or “party on a bike” focuses on abs, legs (obv), and arms with a whopping 800 calories burned in only 45 minutes per class! Led by talented, fit and energetic “cycologists”, CYC will not only provide an AMAZING workout, but a motivating social atmosphere that will keep you coming back every week!

Pricing:

Single class- $19.50 or $16.50 for students

5 ride package- $92.50 or $80.00 for students

10 ride package- $175.00 or $150.00 for students

To book a bike, go to http://www.cycfitness.com.

SERF!

The Southeast Recreational Facility, better known as the SERF offers a wide array of recreational activities such as swimming, a cardio room, running track, basketball courts and countless other classes including yoga and boxing! This is a great facility, conveniently located on campus, and a great place to go to get any kind of workout!

Join an Intramural Sports Team!

What better way to stay active than joining an intramural sports team! Intramural teams are offered for mostly all sports during the spring including tennis, ice hockey, basketball, racquetball, volleyball, floor hockey, broomball, futsal (indoor soccer), sports trivia bowl, floor hockey, softball, ultimate Frisbee, flag football and golf! Staying active isn’t only about getting fit, but also about having fun! Getting together with other students and competing is a good motivating factor and also a way to meet new people on campus! Registration deadlines are ending soon so register for intramural sports now through the SERF at http://recsports.wisc.edu/intramuralsports.html.

Take a run down the Lakeshore path!

Take advantage of the beautiful City of Madison and Lake Mendota and take a run, bike, or walk down the Lakeshore path! Located right on campus, the Lakeshore path offers stunning views of the lake and a great excuse to get outside and enjoy the sunshine while being active!

Nike Training Club App for the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad!

If you’re more of a gym person, or like working out in your dorm, the new Nike Training Club App for your apple device is perfect for you! Right on your phone you can find 100 custom workouts you can do with minimum equipment like weights or just yourself! This app acts like your own personal trainer, setting times, reps, and workouts to sculpt different parts of your body. This app is a free download away through the iTunes store and a great way to workout without going outside or leaving your dorm/apartment!
