We all have memories of outfits we use to wear. Horrible, horrible outfits that make us cringe to even think about.

My worst includes a pair of suede leather pants with black fur trim. I don’t think I need to say any more.

Moral of the story is trying new things when it comes to clothes can be scary, in fact I’ve avoided buying many pieces of clothing just because I didn’t think I’d wear them.

Now that I’m older and wiser I realize that sometimes you just have to give yourself a little push.

For example I love the look of heels. I think they’re classy, sexy, and fun. I never buy heels because I think I’ll never wear them.

Over the past academic year I’ve bought myself four pairs of heels, and only one pair do I still have yet to wear out.

The point is of course you’re never going to wear a new style if you never give yourself the chance. I’m not saying you should drop a lot of money on something you’re not sure you’re going to wear. Instead look for a deal.

Go to Target and buy a $15 pump that you can pop on to add some color to any outfit. Nude is especially great because it elongates your leg.

Wait for the big sales to hit and then buy something you’re unsure of. More expensive stores like Urban Outfitters or Pac Sun have sales on their clearance regularly.

These sales are great times to grab things like maxi skirts, daring accessories, or new makeup looks.

In the end, even if you don’t use it as much as you like, you won’t feel like you’re stuck in a rut of the same old, same old.

Besides, part of the fun of fashion is looking back going “What was I thinking?”
