How to: Style an LBD

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

You’ve seen articles on it, tips on how to find the one, it’s constantly referenced in movies…No I’m not talking about a man or true love, I’m talking about an LBD, more commonly known as a the Little Black Dress.

Personally, I don’t find myself running off to fancy cocktail parties every week and my guess is you don’t either. So I think most of us ignore this staple item and do fine without it.

But mark my words, there will come a day where you need one and there will be no time to go looking for one.

So best to prepare ahead of time and get it in advance! Now I’m a big believer in versatility, so here are three ways you can use your LBD.

1. Casual

A button up shirt will help to tone down the formality of the dress. Plaid or denim is great because you can leave it unbuttoned, buttoned, or ever tie it up. Add a belt or no belt and it’ll still look great.

Black boots are an easy accessory for this look and combat boots give it a hint of grunge style.

2.  Business Casual

Keep it classy and modest add a blazer and dark black tights. A simple necklace is a good accessory that isn’t too flashy.

3. Trendy

Colored tights are a great statement piece right now. To keep them from looking silly, I would stick to deep, fall colors like burgundy or royal purple.
