How to: Decorate Your College Home
I realize it’s a little late in the year but after hanging out in my apartment living room for quite some time these last few days (studying on studying on studying), I began to notice all of the cute, decorative pieces my roommates and I purchased to make our stay here at the LaVille penthouse worthwhile.
In each room of a house or apartment there is vital décor and items that are a must to have a fabulous looking house…and I’m here to tell you what they are!
Living Room
People spend the most time in the living room than any other room in the house, so it’s important to keep it cute and comfy with a hint of fun-ness! A coffee table is a must to be able to place your dinner plate on or hold your magazines and books…add a colorful carpet to go underneath the table for a pop of vividness. Wall art is also necessary, whether making it yourself or purchasing a cute canvas painting. Although your couch may or may not be the cutest piece of furniture, spice it up with decorative pillows…mix-match the colors and make it fun!
I think my roommates did a great job decorating our living room. One of my roommates found an idea on Pinterest where you paint the top of a coffee table with chalkboard paint…it’s been a hit and it really adds some creativity to our place! Also, we purchased our decorative pillows at Marshalls and found some great looking, inexpensive ones!
Bathroom
Why not bedazzle a bathroom? Add a cute shower and sink rug to lighten up your bathroom. Also, you’d be surprised but you can find some absolutely adorable shower curtains online. My roommate found a gorgeous one at wanelo.com and we all just love it!
Bedroom
I think it’s super fun finding different types of posters to hang in my bedroom. There are several poster shops on State Street; you should take a look and see if you find any you like! I swear my bedroom walls consists mostly of posters! Also, to add some color to your room…paint your desk! I painted mine pink and yellow and have gotten a lot of compliments on it!
It’s also cute to add some personal touches to your décor in your college home. Think of ways to incorporate décor that relate to each of your roommates or show your school spirit by hanging a Wisconsin flag. From lights hanging across the ceiling to displaying your vast collection of alcohol bottles, let your creativity expand as you decorate your college home.
