The most wonderful time of the year has approached us…midterm season!! Yeah, no. We study for hours on hours cramming any information our brain can comprehend. We even lose sleep over staying at the library until the early hours of the morning. Finally, the day of our midterm approaches and we are ready to ace it.

Unfortunately, even when we study our butts off and memorize all the random details from our notes, sometimes we still do very, very poorly on the midterm exam. It happens to the best of us and can be upsetting and frustrating to say the least.

After receiving your not-so-hot score, do not run straight to your room bawling like a distressed crazy woman. Here are some coping methods to healthily handle your midterm score.

1. Keep Calm and Call Your Mom
Moms always know best; give your mom a call and bitch to her about how unfair the professor was or how nitpicky the exam questions were. Without a doubt, she will listen to you and help calm you down…if she doesn’t calm you down or becomes upset over your score, welp try these other methods!

2. Eat all the Comfort Food You Want
Besides the Fresh Market cashier judging you with the handful of Trans fatty goodies you are about to purchase and consume, no one else is going to care if you go to town with unhealthy food. That chocolate ice cream and red velvet cake is really going to hit the spot and begin to make you feel better about that midterm score.

3. Retail Therapy…Shopping Heals Every Wound
I am an avid believer that shopping heals every wound. Heading to Urban Outfitters over on State Street or searching the web for your favorite fashions can always put a disheveled girl back to feeling better. Retail therapy is definitely going to help you feel better…and you’ll look absolutely fabulous with the new purchases.

4. Let off Some Steam at the Gym
Working out is a huge stress reliever. If your score is really upsetting you, head to the gym and do an intense cardio workout or join a Zumba class. Getting exercise is going to keep your mind off of the midterm…it’s also going to get you in shape which I promise will make you feel much better as well.

5. Turn that Frown Upside Down
It’s not the end of the world if you have an ugly test score once in a while. Remind yourself that you’ll just study that much more for the next exam. Stay optimistic and do not let that poor exam score define you…life goes on.

6. When All Else Fails, Take a Drink
By no means should you be solving your problems with alcohol…but let’s be real. After a detrimental week, celebrate all of the good things in life by drinking with friends and letting loose. Don’t get hung up on that nasty score instead enjoy the stress-free weekend and forget all about the school week.

There are clearly many ways to deal with the not-so-hot midterm score. We all have experienced an ugly midterm score here and there but just remind yourself that life does indeed go on.

Best of luck ladies on your midterms…kick it in the butt!
