How To: Attend Mifflin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

I’m sure you are all aware of the recent decision to “cancel” Mifflin from the Madison Police Department. As unfair and disheartening this news has made us feel, let’s be real…Mifflin is still going to happen. Maybe it won’t be as crazy as it has been in years past, but I am certain people will still hold house parties this coming Saturday.

With the increase of police force that will be present on Saturday, I have come up with several tips on how to stay out of trouble, yet have a fun day by attending Mifflin.

For one, I hope you have already bought any alcoholic beverages from the liquor store because I have heard from several sources that undercover cops will be at numerous liquor stores starting Friday. To avoid a run-in with the cops, don’t try buying any drinks if you’re under 21!

Another tip to have a successful time at Mifflin is to not act belligerent or outrageous while walking outside. Obviously it’s fine to be laughing or yelling with friends outside, but make sure to not run through traffic or not carry any open beverages…the cops will find you!

If you plan on going to Mifflin Street, make sure you know someone who lives there before trying to crash a party already going on. If people don’t want you at their house, they won’t be scared to throw you out. There are parties going on all over Madison, so if you don’t know anyone on Mifflin it’s okay to go to a different party somewhere else!

Finally, a must for attending Mifflin is to get in the block party spirit through your outfit! Mifflin is a time to celebrate the ending of a school year, so dress crazy and let loose! I usually always wear a fanny pack or an outrageous house just to add some fun, craziness to the day! Though there weren’t a lot of Mifflin shirts to purchase this year, make sure to wear something perfect for a day party!
