The day has (almost) arrived. Whether that means laying in bed, shoving the most expensive chocolate you can buy at Walgreens into your mouth… or going to Graze, The Great Dane, or The Old Fashioned (you fancy, huh?) with your significant other, everyone deserves the right tunes to accompany their lust or distrust in the male species (especially on Valentine’s Day).
Personally, I am sick of hearing Mario’s Let Me Love You or Ginuwine’s Differences. Yeah… the music videos are full of sexy men bumpin’ and grindin’, but I’d rather not break into pathetic tears while listening to songs written while Von Dutch hats and Abercrombie jean skirts were “all the rage”. That being said, here is where I come in. In honor of the most hated (by most college-aged girls) or most celebrated day of the year (maybe I am being a tad dramatic)… here are a few songs that are sure to make your heart skip a beat.
I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T a.k.a. Single & Loving It (but still wanting a little something-something):
You like the idea of being single. It means you can get as aggressive as you want on Valentine’s Day and not have to worry about all the drunk texts you definitely sent the night before. Embarrassing…? Nah. Natural…? Definitely. You embrace that you’re single… and the fact that you enjoy “just doing you”.
1. Dreams by Fleetwood Mac (Psychemagik Remix)
2. Party by Beyoncé feat. J. Cole
3. Type of Way by Rich Homie Quan (a must for pregames)
4. Party Girls by Ludacris feat. Wiz Khalifa, Jeremih & Cashmere Cat
5. Flawless (duh) by Beyoncé (Madeaux Remix)
6. Doo-Wop by Lauryn Hill
7. Wings by Little Mix
You are Happily Taken:
You are in a relationship and on cloud nine. Your significant other showers you with attention, flowers, or food. Food is 110% a must, however. This Valentine’s Day you obviously have plans—depending on your type of relationship, of course. Subtle and simple—you’ll stay in and order food (movie, included). Romantic and down for getting dressed up—you’ll hit the town and grab a bite wherever you both see appetizing. All in all— you’re off the market and obsessed (not borderline creepy… please) with the one that makes you the happiest.
1. Simplethings by Miguel
2. XO by Beyoncé
3. Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye (Kygo Remix)
4. Don’t Wait by Mapei (or remixed by Smalltown DJs)
5. Lost by Chance the Rapper feat. Noname Gypsy
6. All of Me by John Legend (Tiesto Remix)
7. Drunk in Love by Beyoncé and Jay Z
So, whether you’re in love with your significant other…. Or you have legitimate feelings for the last piece of pizza you shamelessly shoved down your throat (no regrets…. #carbsdontcount… ever), just remember… Valentine’s Day is 24 hours. In the grand scheme of things, it’s one day (or 0.27% of your entire year). So HA! Embrace what you have and make the day count (-cough- maybe a little lot of help from the songs above -cough-)— with friends, family, and life in general.
