My Guide to a Gilmore Girls Fall

In the quaint town of Stars Hollow, every season has its own charm. However, fall is by far the most well-loved season due to its picturesque setting and overall endearing energy. For fans like myself of Gilmore Girls, the arrival of fall immediately calls for a rewatch of the beloved television series on Netflix. The acclaimed series focuses on the relationship between a mother, Lorelei Gilmore, and her daughter, Rory Gilmore, through a coming-of-age story portrayed by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, respectively.

Gilmore Girls gives off an automatic fall vibe due to the beauty of fall in the idyllic setting of Stars Hollow, a town that comes complete with vibrant autumn foliage, charming downtown architecture and the overall visual of a New England autumn postcard. By romanticizing the reds, oranges and yellows of the trees around town, a Gilmore Girls feeling is very attainable throughout the months of fall. This, paired with a walk through a charming downtown area, can make one feel like they themselves are on their way to Luke’s Diner, Lorelei and Rory’s most frequented coffee stop.

Anyone who has seen Gilmore Girls understands the importance of coffee. No episode is complete without Lorelei entering the rustic Luke’s Diner and demanding a cup of coffee as quickly as possible. Autumn is the most important time for coffee lovers. Between the chilly weather and the prevalence of pumpkin spice, there is no better time to meet a friend at the local Starbucks, Collectivo or a local coffee shop. The combination of good coffee and good company creates the ideal Gilmore Girls scene.

Another important factor of fall is the fashion that comes with it, and any fan of the show cannot help but admire the wardrobe choices of the characters whether it is warm sweaters, cool coats or fashion-forward jeans. The most notable example is the “Rory Gilmore sweater” which has recently gained attention as shown in the first episode of Season 1. This white cable knit sweater is the perfect combination of cozy and timeless, and even typing in the phrase “Rory Gilmore Sweater” online will bring up dozens of options available for purchase. This is just one example of the perfect fall fashion choices made by Lorelei and Rory that have viewers running to update their Pinterest boards and, of course, their wardrobes.

Gilmore Girls completes its perfect fall feel with a plethora of fall-related events that stray from the traditional trick-or-treating. One example is Stars Hollow’s annual Autumn Festival as shown in episode 7 of season 1. This festival consists of fall activities such as pumpkin painting and enjoying more fall-related desserts than the community could ever eat. Events like this one do not just exist inside the idyllic town of Stars Hollow. From apple orchards to fall festivals, dozens of events happen every fall that are perfect for a group of autumn-oriented friends. Fall-focused events are the perfect way to romanticize a heartwarming Gilmore Girls fall. As fall continues in full swing, fans revisit an old favorite series to appreciate fall in the best way possible. Cozying up on a chilly fall day to watch the fall episodes of Gilmore Girls is a guaranteed way to inspire a perfect fall. While autumn is beautiful on the show, this can be replicated in real life through these simple steps. Appreciate the change of the seasons and romanticize the beauty that fall brings. Match the fall feel with a good cup of coffee and an outfit inspired by the protagonist’s Rory or Lorelei. Attend events that appreciate fall, and most importantly bring good Gilmore Girls-loving friends along with you!
