Just because we are stuck at home a lot more or not going out as much, doesn’t mean you can’t feel beautiful at home. Whether you consider yourself a pro or you don’t know what a beauty sponge is, anyone can use makeup products to enhance or elevate their features.

For me in particular, I have spent several years trying out different tips and tricks to create a makeup look that enhances my freckles rather than concealing them. I know when I was first starting out with makeup, I struggled to find products that wouldn’t cover up or camouflage my freckles. I’m sure that many others struggle with the same thing, so here are my five “S”s to making your freckles pop during the fall season:

Sunscreen is a MUST

Even with the weather gloomy and the sun not shining as much, sunscreen is still absolutely essential! Your 50-year-old self will thank you when you’re not worried about skin cancer or age spots as badly. This should be applied before primer and foundation so it doesn’t smear your beautiful masterpiece. I personally use the No7 moisturizer with SPF 30.

Sheer tint is your best friend

Embrace your freckles for everything that they are! It can be tricky to find a coverup or foundation that still conceals any redness or imperfections you want to cover up. I have found a tinted moisturizer or tinted skin veil is the best way to cover up my imperfections, but everyone is different. The best one I’ve found is NYX’s Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil, but No7’s foundation works nicely for more coverage in the fall/winter.

Shimmer everywhere

Your skin is already so beautiful, so make sure to highlight your best features with a little sparkle. Highlighting your t-zone and a little shimmer on the eyelids is a nice way to add a little sparkle. I really like a copper tone on my eyelids, particularly Colourpop’s Flagstaff Shimmer Eyeshadow, and I will swear by the Anastasia Sugar Glow Palette until I die. It’s a little pricey, but certain to give you a long term lasting highlight.

Skimp on the bronzer

If any of you are also fair-skinned on top of freckles, I’ve found that bronzing can be tricky. You want to only use a little bit and build up just below the cheekbones and pick a shade that is two-three shades darker than your actual skin tone. I swear by Sephora’s Bronzer for my fair skin, it’s the one bronzer that I’ve found that doesn’t make it look like I smeared dirt on my cheeks.

Sassy dark lips can never go wrong

A bold dark lip can go a long way in stepping up your fall look. I love anything berry or dark red colored. Some of my personal favorites include Clinique’s a Different Grape and Kat Von D’s Lolita. It’s a fun way to step up any look no matter how much makeup you wear.

Makeup is designed to make you feel comfortable in your own skin and enhance your already natural beauty. Freckles are no exception to this, it doesn’t take much to find makeup that works for any type of skin. Don’t hide your freckles, own them. With these five “S”s, you’ll embrace your skin and enhance your beauty like never before.
