Dressing for Class: Cold Mornings vs Warm Afternoons

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Getting up in the morning is a struggle, but having to figure out what you are going to wear for the day is equally as difficult. You go to school in Wisconsin. The weather is always unpredictable, and the forecast for the day can never be trusted. So what do you wear? During this awkward transition in weather from summer to fall, picking out clothes is a day by day process because waking up you never know what to expect.

In the morning, before picking out your clothes, check the weather. By doing so, you can get an idea of what you should be planning to wear for the rest of the day. As of lately, the forecast has been showing that it will be in the low 60s during the morning, and a high 70s in the afternoon. My tip to you is: layer, layer, LAYER. I suggest wearing a tank top or t-shirt underneath a sweater or jacket. Specifically, a long sweater or jean jacket should do the trick, especially if you want to look cute while staying warm in the chilly morning air on your walk to classes.

Plain colored tank tops work very well with patterned sweaters. Or, if tank tops aren’t really your style wear a graphic t-shirt. Graphic t-shirts with faded jean jackets give your look that classic vintage appeal that never grows old. If you have a particular tank top or t-shirt picked out that you have been dying to wear but aren’t sure what type of jacket to wear with it, don’t fret because there is a way to break this tie. Two words: bomber jacket. This throwback jacket from the 60s-80s is making its 2016 debut in pattern. Floral bomber jackets are the most popular design, paired with a plan tank top or graphic t-shirt you will be catching everybody’s eye in no time. In the afternoon, just take your jacket or sweater off to keep cool; no guy is going to want to sit next to you in lecture if you are sweating uncontrollably. Tie your jacket or sweater around your waist, that way you won’t have to carry it and it is trendy.

Now, what to wear for pants? Mornings aren’t going to be as forgiving as the afternoons will be, making your choice of leg-wear trickier than your choice of shirt. It is possible that the forecast will stay in the high 60s to low 70s in the afternoon, making a choice of jeans or leggings perfectly comfortable. Skinny jeans with a lighter wash and a few rips here or there will give you that relaxed chill look. A darker wash is always nice especially if you want to dress a little bit fancier.

To be honest you can never go wrong with leggings. Black leggings go with everything. But, if you want to dress a little trendier and stay comfortable at the same time, wear black leggings with sheer cuts in them.

There is also always the possibility that the temperature will reach a high of 80 in the afternoon, in which you would definitely want to wear shorts or capris instead. High-waisted shorts, cloth or jean, look adorable with whatever kind of shirt you choose to pair them with. They also give your legs a lengthy appearance, it’s a win-win.

There you have it! Check the weather and layer away to stay prepared for this crazy Wisconsin weather while still looking amazing at the same time.
