Cute Date Ideas in Wisconsin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

I’d be lying if I told you that I’d rather be on the beach somewhere soaking up the sun if I was on a cute date. However, being where I am, I don’t get to see the dolphins and salty air as I’m rolling around in the sand with my boy toy. However, being a Wisconsin girl, I’ve learned to make the most out of our cornfields and endless winter seasons. With summer coming up, these 10 cute date ideas will surely help you win your crush your over.

1.     Drive-In Movies

You’re probably wondering how these are even still around. But I promise you that they are, and a great change from the typical movie-dinner date. Pack up a couple blankets and pillows and hit the road. Certain spots in Wisconsin where you can find one of these is in Wisconsin Dells, Jefferson, Freedom and Monroe.

2.     Sporting Events

You are almost guaranteed a second date if you can cheer on your man’s favorite team while having fun too! There are many sporting events that go on in the summer especially if you like baseball. There are Mallards games here in Madison and Brewer games in Milwaukee!

3.     Hiking at Devils Lake

There’s nothing better on a nice summer day than taking a stroll in some beautiful scenery which Wisconsin is known for! Devil’s Lake is the perfect day-getaway where you can jump in the lake right after your workout on their endless trails.

4.     Gone Fishin’

This is definitely a great, cheap, and last minute option for those of you that have the patience to sit around and wait for a bite.  There are plenty of small lakes here in Wisconsin that is perfect for a little privacy.

5.     Paddle Boarding

This might take a little fearlessness and skill, but I promise paddle boarding is a lot of fun! This is perfect to get a little one-on-one conversation without being too distracted.  This is perfect for those still on campus during the summer, because you’re able to rent boards at Memorial Union with a discount.

6.     Did Someone Say S’mores?

Nothing says summertime more than a campfire on the beach. Well, for Wisconsin, our beaches aren’t very big. But if you get away from downtown Madison, there are plenty of smaller beaches that are perfect for a campfire! Governor Nelson State Park is a perfect place for this, and it’s only 20 minutes away from the UW-Madison campus.

7.     Summer Concerts

Wisconsin has plenty of summer concerts to choose from if you want to plan a weekend getaway or only a one-night date. From Summerfest in Milwaukee to Country USA in Oshkosh, there are plenty of options to choose from for all you music lovers.

8.     Movie at Camp Randall Stadium

For all you badger fans, every summer, our school offers a night for us to set down our blankets and watch the movie of their choosing under the stadium nights. If this doesn’t say romantic, I’m not sure what does.  Keep a look out this summer for the upcoming date!

9.     Calling All Adrenaline Junkies

There’s nothing I love more in the summer than exploring what my state has to offer. Growing up in this state, I’ve learned to get a little dirty and find the hidden gems around here. If any of you like cliff jumping, I recommend the Red Granite Rock Quarry in Red Granite, Wisconsin for some summer fun. Who’s more of a daredevil, you or your boyfriend? P.S. I’m not sure if this is legal; so don’t cite me on this.

10.  Take Out

If any of you girls are like me, my perfect date night could simply be renting a movie at a local red box and ordering take out from my favorite Chinese restaurant after a long day. Sometimes it’s good to make things easy because it’s only being with him that truly counts.

I know how hard it can be to get creative in Wisconsin; however, if you’re looking for a perfect date night, there’s nowhere better to be than here. With its beautiful nature, it’s full of endless possibilities. I hope these ideas can help you score your second date and help get your mind running for some new ideas!
