Campus Celebrity: Sarah Glazer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Sarah Glazer is a sophomore majoring in finance through the School of Business, as well as studying for a Spanish certificate. Not only does this Chicago native enjoy country music and cheering on the Cubs, she also loves being president of the influential organization TAMID. The organization offers many incredible opportunities for students looking to gain professional proficiencies. For example, Sarah got to intern at a company in Israel this past summer, an experience provided through TAMID. She’ll further explain the concept, misunderstandings and dynamics of this very interesting association.

What exactly is TAMID?

TAMID is a consulting and investing organization that gives members hands-on experiences because we actually consult for start up companies that are located in Tel Aviv, Israel. A consultant is a person that provides advice to a company in areas such as marketing or finance. Therefore, we really focus on giving these companies suggestions on how to improve their social media platforms and establish their target markets.

What does your position as president for TAMID entail, and how much work do you have to put into it?

I oversee the executive board and the club as a whole. I’m influential in planning the things we do on a week to week basis, as well as communicating with TAMID nationals. The club as a whole has weekly meetings every Wednesday, and the executive board meets every other week. Outside of these meetings, I usually spend about two hours a week organizing events and overseeing the executive members.

Are there any common misconceptions about this organization?

Since we work with companies based out of Israel, I feel like a lot people automatically assume that we are a Jewish organization. However, TAMID is an apolitical and areligious association, therefore it is open for anyone that wants to apply! Also, I feel like people assume it’s only for business students, but really it’s for anyone that wants to gain experience working with professional companies.

What’s the dynamic of your organization like?

It’s very close knit community! We have TAMID dinners and brunches at restaurants and people’s places. Through TAMID, I met a lot of great friends that I wouldn’t have known otherwise. Therefore, this club isn’t only great for building your resume and gaining experience, but also to meet like-minded and motivated students! The members can often be seen studying with one another, hanging out after class and grabbing meals together.

How has TAMID impacted you personally?

A component of TAMID is called “the fellowship.” It’s an opportunity for students in the organization to actually travel to Israel and intern at a start-up company in Tel Aviv. So this past summer, I lived and worked in Tel Aviv, Israel. While there, I was able to meet really amazing people and experience a work environment outside of the United States. I was able to learn that the workplace in Israel is a lot more relaxed than in the US. There isn’t a strict dress code that employees have to follow, or even specific hours that they have to work. Everyone trusts each other to pull their weight and put in the effort for the company to function effectively. For my internship, I could come and go as I wanted, as long as I was getting my part done. I had a once in a lifetime opportunity that I never would have gotten if it weren’t for TAMID.

If I wanted to become involved with this organization, what would I do?

Recruitment takes place at the beginning of the year, so you have to fill out an application and turn it in in the fall. You can find out more information at tamiduwmadison.org, or you can come talk to us at org fairs!

Sarah does an incredible job representing TAMID as it’s president, as she is clearly very passionate about the amazing opportunities that it has to offer. She would like to encourage anyone that is interested in the organization to seek more information on their website.
