Many people first heard of BTS when they surpassed huge names such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez to win the Billboard Award for Top Social Artist in May. A few weeks ago, they took the stage on the AMA awards and made history by being the first K-pop group to perform there and on live on an American TV channel.
BTS has also made appearances on The Ellen Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Late Late Show With James Corden. So, who is this Korean boy band that has taken America by storm?
BTS, which stand for 방탄소년단 (Bangtan Sonyeondan), is a Korean boy band that consists of seven members: RM, J-Hope, Jin, Suga, Jimin, V and Jungkook. Here are a couple more things you should know about BTS…
1. They create their own music and songs.
With a hip-hop/R&B infusion, most of their music contains a social or political message. They write music that feature topics like bullying, mental health and happiness.
2. Their fan base is extremely dedicated.
Their fans call themselves ARMY (Adorable Representative M.C for Youth). They are amazingly loyal and devoted to BTS and are always re-tweeting and liking their posts. BTS returned the love to their fans by writing a special song for them on their three-year anniversary album.
3. They have a huge social media platform.
They have more than 7 million followers on Instagram and 10.9 million followers on Twitter, which led them to win the Billboard Award for Top Social Artist in May 2017.
4. They all have amazing personalities.
As I was watching The Ellen DeGeneres Show and PEOPLE Now, I noticed that BTS members weren’t afraid to show their distinctive personalities or act silly in front of the camera. Seeing them have fun and show off their personalities made it easy to fall in love with them.
