Best Dressed at the Oscars

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.
This past Sunday, the awards season came to a close with the one of the biggest shows of the year, The 88th Oscars. From Chris Rock hosting and calling out the #OscarsSoWhite issue to the social media phenomenon of Leonardo DiCaprio finally winning an Oscar, this year’s event was one of the most memorable of them all. Amid all the controversy and memories that this show produced, the ladies dressed to impress on the red carpet. Here are my top 5 favorite looks from the night.

Charlize Theron
This dress was one of the biggest hits on this year’s carpet. This Christian Dior form-fitting dress was made to perfection and looked absolutely banging on Charlize. The plunging neck line paired with that amazing necklace perfected this flawless look. One day I hope to wear a dress that is half amazing as this and look half as good. All hail queen Charlize.

Rachel McAdams

While I already had major girl crush on Rachel McAdams ever since “The Notebook,” this emerald beauty only reinforced my love for her. This dress is everything. Made by August Getty Atelier, this gown looks like it was perfectly sewn onto her. Pair that with an unbelievable physique, a sexy peek-a-boo leg, and an open back that is to die for, you have a look that is undeniably one of the best on this red carpet.

Olivia Wilde

Some didn’t like this look, but I think it was one of the most interesting and different dresses of the night. Her whole look was truly flawless. From the braided up-do to the choker, this Valentino gown looked perfect on her. If you think the front is beautiful, the back was just as gorgeous. A huge round of applause to Ms. Wilde for this one.

Lady Gaga

From her David Bowie tribute to her unwavering support for sexual assault victims, Lady Gaga has been slaying life lately. Besides being a great role model and showing the world her talent is like nothing else, she also slayed this year’s carpet. Lady Gaga went for the unconventional pant option and succeeded. Her ensemble looked like art to me and it completely suited her so well. It was elegant and beautiful and her whole look was pulled together by simple hair and earrings. Keep slaying, Gaga.

Brie Larson

If Brie Larson wasn’t already killing this awards season, she would have done so with this gown and winning best actress for Room. Ms. Larson went for an elegant electric blue Gucci dress that was complemented with an intricate waistband and skirt. Her simple accessories and slicked hair was a match made in heaven for the intricateness of her bottom half of the gown. Paired with a killer smile and some red-lipstick, this little lady came to the carpet ready to conquer anything.

This red carpet was so amazing for fashion and ended this awards season on a great, and beautiful, note.

I am a senior at UW Madison and third year student in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. After pursuing a major in Strategic Communications and a certificate in digital studies, I'm hoping to be the next Chelsea Handler or get adopted by the Kardashian clan. When I'm not roaming Madison or doing school work, you can find me being cooler than my twin sister, taking selfies without any shame, or quoting Gilmore Girls on social media. I'm a lover of all things fashion, lifestyle and puppies. I'm so excited about being a writer for Her Campus and hope you enjoy all my thoughts and my attempts at being funny with you!
