7 Things I Learned from Corinne on The Bachelor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

No fairytale romance would be complete without a villain, and this season of The Bachelor would not have been complete without one of the most iconic “villains” the franchise has ever seen. While garnering both criticism and praise for her antics on the show, there is actually a lot that we can learn from Corinne’s performance this season.

1. To not take everything so seriously

Whether you liked Corinne or not, you must admit that she carried this season of The Bachelor on her shoulders. Through each dramatic outburst by another girl or Nick, Corinne was there to give us her two cents with her entertaining commentary. Her constant narration inspires all to not take things too seriously and encourages us to look at our lives a little more lightheartedly.

2. If you’re going to be anything, be honest

One of the things that leaned heavily to Corinne’s entertainment factor was her unprecedented honesty. Whether it was to Nick or the other girls, she always spoke her mind, and was not afraid to let everyone know how she felt. This lifestyle is both admirable and inspirational. It inspires each of us to think of the ways which little moments of pure honesty could positively change our relationships, careers, and ultimately our lives.

3. To be more confident

Right in the beginning of the show, viewers of The Bachelor were stunned by Corinne’s topless tryst with Nick in the pool. She then continued to shock us with multiple romantic and sexual surprises for Nick. While looked down upon by many, I personally applaud and admire Corinne immensely for these antics. The way she embraces her body, her sexuality, and commitment to being herself make her a prime example of incredible self-confidence. Corinne inspires us to accept our individuality, in both beauty and personality and motivates us to be less afraid to show ourselves.

4. To go after what you want

Corinne is incredibly driven. Throughout the season, she makes it known what she wants, and she isn’t afraid to do what it takes to get it. Whether it is getting Nick’s attention or ridding her competition, Corinne will stop at nothing to get what she wants. While we aren’t all fending off 29 other girls for the “man of our dreams”, we can still translate this into a wake-up call to be more motivated with our own goals. Corinne inspires us to work for what we want, and not let anything get in our way.

5. To be proud of your successes

Even though she was constantly criticized for being handed everything, Corinne is both a business woman and a model. She manages her father’s multi-million dollar corporation and wants the world to know about it. However, in my opinion, her proclamation of this achievement shouldn’t be receiving as much backlash as it has been. There is something both endearing and inspirational about women holding powerful roles within companies that we, as a society, should be encouraging. Corinne shows us that there is nothing wrong in being proud of the things that you achieve in life, and motivates us to do the same.

6. That a little bit of “me time” is important

I’m going to go ahead and make the claim that Corinne was by far the most glamorous contestant on this season of The Bachelor. From taking bubble baths with champagne to ordering a feast poolside, Corinne treats herself the way that we all wish we could. Her constant self-pampering is excellent and causes us to reflect upon how often we spoil ourselves. It is important to indulge yourself every so often, so take a page out of Corinne’s book and go ahead and treat yourself.

7. To know your self-worth

I learned one of the most important lessons in one of the most heartbreaking moments of this season. No Corinne moment was more admirable than her exit from the show. While incredibly heartbroken from the rose ceremony, Corinne delivered an amazing speech in which she displays her confidence in who she is and what she deserves. In case you missed this wonderful moment, here are some of the highlights:

  • “I’m trying, now, to say things that men think are appropriate and you know what, I’m done. I’m done trying to show my men how much I worship them and love them and care for them and support them. I need that.”
  • “I am done trying to impress these men.”
  • “I’m going to be me and whatever happens, happens. But, I will never kiss up to a man ever again in my life. I’m tired and I’m done.”

Through delivering the ultimate empowerment speech, Corinne reminds each and every viewer that they are worth something. Each of us deserves the best, and should never be forced to subdue ourselves, give up what we want, or have to settle.

Here’s to hoping that we’ll see you in Paradise, queen!
