FAVORITES FOR A RAINY DAY
If I’m ever looking for a little escapism I always turn to one of five movies. These films have become my go-tos for a night in, or whenever I’m looking for some comforting background noise as I clean my apartment. I also keep them in my back pocket whenever someone is looking for a good recommendation! These are five movies I never get tired of:
1. GOOD WILL HUNTING
Every time I do a rewatch I’m reminded of why I love Good Will Hunting. This movie is an absolute masterpiece. It will make you laugh until your stomach hurts and then cry until your eyes are red and puffy. If there’s one movie that is most frequently quoted by and to me, it’s probably Good Will Hunting. There’s a reason why it won the Oscars!
2. RAMONA AND BEEZUS
I had to include a childhood favorite on this list, and Ramona and Beezus was an easy pick. I think anyone who grew up reading the books knows how amazing the film adaptation is, and it still brings me so much joy. I have a big age gap with my own little sister, so this movie felt very relatable to me growing up. If I had to pick a favorite scene it would definitely be the backyard water fight.
3. DIVERGENT
This list wouldn’t be genuine if it didn’t include at least one of my favorite YA dystopian films. From the day I picked up the first book in middle school, I was hooked on Veronica Roth’s Divergent. I read the second one in a day and the movies are still my go-to whenever I’m feeling down. One of my favorite parts of the film adaptation is the soundtrack. I think it matches the vibe of the book perfectly and really captures the emotions of every scene.
I’m a huge romantic comedy fan so I’ve seen quite a few, but When Harry Met Sally takes the cake. The love story in this film is incredibly genuine and real which is what makes it so special. I’m usually not a friends-to-lovers person when it comes to book and movie tropes, but Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal created such hilarious yet relatable characters that are easy to root for over the 10+ years of their friendship turned love.
5. MAMMA MIA
Before I fell in love with the movie itself, I would listen to the Mamma Mia soundtrack from the original musical in the car with my grandparents all the time. The music was so fun and brought me so much joy that when I was finally allowed to watch the movie I was immediately obsessed. To this day the music is on repeat in my headphones whenever I take a long walk, and it never fails to make me want to dance.
As a frequent movie watcher I could probably name about 15 more, but these are just some of my top favorites. Whether I need a good cry, a laugh, or just a relaxing night in, I can always count on these 5 movies.
