You Know You’re A Music Major When…

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winthrop chapter.

If you live in the practice room, if you’re constantly reading notes, and you eat, sleep and breathe music, then you must be a music major.

Here are some of the other signs that you’re majoring in music!

1. Band, Choir, or Orchestra is life, the practice room is home, and your instrument is bae.

2. You constantly have to explain to people what you plan to do with your life.

3. You constantly complain about aural skills, theory, and piano.

4. In conversation you find yourself saying things like, “The instrument Squidward plays..”

5. You get excited for new reeds!

6. Your pinky game is strong.

7. You try to guess the pitch of random sounds.

8. You turn everything into a song.

9. Your life literally becomes a musical.

10. You randomly have a room full of flowers, balloons, and champagne because you performed an amazing recital.

11. You hit a high note and your studio responds…

12. You look like this at least once a week.

13. You have a bad lesson and your professor looks at you like…

14. You finally get your bachelors degree after 5 and 1/2 years of college.

At the end of the day music majors are some the most hard-working, dedicated, resilient, and passionate people you’ll ever meet. Our work is never done as we are continually striving to improve and perfect our craft. We handle criticism well, we know how to make short and long-term goals, and we know how to entertain a crowd.

Go forth and make music.
